Jordan has nominated its UN ambassador Mahmoud Hmoud to fill the casual vacancy after #ICJ President Judge #Salam resigned to become PM of #Lebanon earlier this month. Elections are set for 27 May 2025

This situation has been under preliminary examination since 2008 with the Taliban only forming 1 of 3(!) groups under investigation. It's unfortunate that the Prosecutor is only looking at the Taliban at this stage and I hope the scope will broaden.

A casual vacancy for #ICJ president! Will VP Sebutinde move up or will judges decide to elect another? Both are possible Plus, I think judge Salam managed to be elected on a WEOG seat. With France & UK already announcing 2026 candidates-will one/they nominate for this seat?

The first #ICC in absentia confirmation of charges hearing has a date. I have real doubts about this development but setting a date for this hearing marks a fundamental moment in the pre-trial practice of the Court.The PTC's notes on agreements on the facts are noteworthy (27-29)
#ICC Pre-Trial Chamber rules that the confirmation of charges hearing of Joseph #Kony will be held on 9 September 2025. This will be the first *in absentia* confirmation hearing at the ICC, signalling a fundamental shift in the way the Court operates -
