There is no school on Thursday, February 7. This also includes the Screen for Success event scheduled Thursday. Employees and parents will receive this message via email and social media tonight, and phone call tomorrow morning.
Due to the weather conditions, classes in the Wichita Public Schools will be cancelled for Thursday, February 22. We will make a decision regarding evening activities on Thursday afternoon.
There is no school today - December 16, 2019 - due to anticipated road conditions and transportation delays, and cold temperatures. All non-attendance centers will remain open.
The Wichita Public Schools will not have school on Tuesday, January 16 due to the predicted extremely cold temperatures and wind chills. All high school athletic practices and competitions will take place as scheduled. For employees: All non-attendance centers will remain open.
WPS and the BOE agree that it's time to have a community conversation to change the North High mascot. The Board of Education will hold its first public discussion on this topic on July 30, with a plan developed for community engagement to follow.

Today John Will, a retired construction worker from Halstead, delivered several sets of handmade Lincoln Logs to the district for use by our Latchkey program. In the past few years Mr. Will has donated more than 20 sets of Lincoln logs and 12 sets of handmade wooden blocks.
Judging from the very active discussions that have taken place in the last two hours, it is clear to me that Wichita’s public schools are hugely important to our community, and serve not only a vital educational role, but also an important role in the daily lives of our families.
Congratulations to Northeast Magnet senior Chase Williams, who has been named a Koch Scholar by WSU's Cohen Honors College. Williams, who plans to major in engineering, will receive between $30,000 and $60,000 during his four-year attendance at WSU.

Earlier this week, Wilbur Middle School held a special ceremony renaming their track in honor of Jamie Heintz, a longtime coach and math teacher at the school who will be retiring this year.
Congratulations to East High senior Marlon Toney, who was recently named a Wichita State University Doris and Ralph Klose Scholar. The $19,000 scholarship is awarded to students pursuing a degree in math or science at WSU.

The Sedgwick County Health Department has announced a ban on gatherings of more than 250 people. As a result, we have cancelled all athletic practices or community gatherings in our buildings and on our property during spring break.
The statue was donated to the school by the 2018-19 East High Staff and was decorated by the school’s National Art Society students. Students spent 250 hours painting the statue.
