@StuartBDonovan @markothoughts @dpfdpf The new DP permits & even encourages more medium/high density residential development. But it is also more restrictive on releasing the rural land needed for low density houses that are the only form worth building. For this reason, I think Wgtn will not get affordable housing.

@markothoughts @StuartBDonovan @dpfdpf Wellington as a region continues to grow but housing new builds in Wellington have stalled. I know of fully consented high-rise apartments that are not being built due to high cost. The region IS building housing ... but it is low density in Levin because Wgtn does not permit it.

@StuartBDonovan @dpfdpf That is not correct. In 2014 WCC upzoned Jville & Kilbirnie under DPC 72 (. The council has also been very permissive in applying height rules under the previous District Plan for many years. Finally, when the new dense rules became live nothing happened.
