So proud of our varsity boys basketball team!!! All hail the champs!!! What a game! Congratulations to our boys and an amazing coaching staff, all led my Tony Bentley!!
Dressed in the uniform of my job before teaching for winter spirit week. How fun!! Most of my kids are like what is that?? I worked for Blockbuster as a manger on Long Island thru my college years before taking a pay cut to become a teacher. Note the original name tag!
Starting my tenure as the tenth principal in 70 years at Wakefield High School! I am beyond proud and even more excited to have this baton passed on to me!
Wakefield teachers showing our students what they look like hanging out on the trash can areas. Yes, it’s a thing! The participation in teacher/student swap day is hysterical at Wakefield!!
A Wakefield staff member sent me this pic while on a walk. Captured a rainbow over the school. He texted me and said “it’s a good place with good people”. True!
Meet baby Dylan! What a beautiful baby!! Congrats!!! I may have insisted that my staff register him immediately as our youngest Warrior! I love supporting all of our Warriors!
I’ve always had perfect vision. Now, I’ve finally succumbed to getting readers (students, that refers to reading glasses). So, why not go green for Wakefield!
Happy 4th of July! Be safe!! This is my first tweet as I get my new WHS principal account up and running. Can't wait to get started. But first, grilling, pool and fireworks. Proud to be a Warrior!
Congrats to the Warriors who received scholarships from the Wakefield Scholarship Foundation!! What a great day and an amazing organization to support our students.
Congratulations to Mr. Michael Lutz for being selected as Wakefield's Teacher of the Year!! Now in his 31st year, Mr. Lutz is still going strong as an English teacher and Department Chair. You can feel the love from students and staff!
Thanks for taking the time to chat with us! It was great learning about the work of Dr. Spencer Kagan and all of the new updates to cooperative learning! Once you attend these workshops, you can’t unsee what cooperative learning should look like.

At the APS School Board Meeting to celebrate Wakefield’s own Allen Ballard for 1st place in the MLK Literary and Visual Arts Contest! What a creative and talented kid! Oh, and he was recently accepted to Hofstra - just like his principal! :)
What an inspiring and emotionally charged evening of Wakefield High School COHORT members sharing their reflections. Great to see Tim Spicer again! Great work Mr. Cotman, Ms. Maitland and Ms. Dempsey.
Thx
@WHS_crew
for inviting me to the end of year crew party on the Anacostia. Great program, food and fun. And special thanks to true students who gave me the tour of the boat house and launching docks. Great kids!! Congrats seniors!
I was honored to help celebrate the life of a giant in our field. Mr. Kokonis was in his 65th year of teaching. What an amazing educator to still have been teaching at age 91.
Students in Wakefield’s Computer Programming class learned about algorithms and implementations by building paper airplanes based on their peers’ instructions. Atef and David’s plane flew the furthest, but special shoutout to Liam whose airplane hit Mr. Balas.
Loved bonding with some great staff today at the Outdoor Lab. I wasn’t much help on this boat but we had fun! And I think I grabbed a “SMedium” life vest lol.
Ended my Friday with a home visit to one our rising ninth graders and his family. Such a wonderful Wakefield tradition to visit our rising ninth grade families before the school year starts!
You can always rely on a

Proud of our students who competed in the Academic Bowl in Atlanta's Area School for the Deaf. You all make us very proud!! Thank you also to Coaches Jones and Gomez.
Loved my Blockbuster Video days! Fun fact: Jeff Stahl (YHS) used to work for me at BBV on Long Island! Even Better Fact: I was on the balcony of the NYSE when BBV went public … with Renee Russo!!!!
Honored to have worked with an Alexandria City icon and a legend in the profession. Lou started teaching in 1959 and touched generations throughout his 60+ years teaching. Sending prayers and well wishes to my colleagues during this difficult time.
At the sidewalk sale this past weekend, the Class of 2025 wanted to make me a bracelet to buy. I told them to surprise me. They made this for me. Love these kids!
