@fishguyphotos is out of town, so the ALES lab is taking over this week's GeekTalk on Thursday at Ubergeek brewery in Riverhead. Delaney will be talking about bats in NY and we'll have some instruments so folks can listen to bats flying around ! Talk starts at 8pm.

@brandynlucca @OllieShipley @chris_harrod And the data analysis costs (in person time, licenses or learning curves w open source alternatives) can be comparable (or more) than the gear.

Recovered our final turtle tag of the season today. 6 successful deployments - 3X our count from last summer! Huge thanks to Capts: Greg, @fishguyphotos, and Chris W and Brian @somas for assisting us w tag pick up. And to @NYMarineRescue for the turtles !

Congrats to @melissaleone_ - her 2nd MS thesis paper was recently published in JASA. Check it out if you want to know more about cod and weakfish at NY's artificial reefs ! And some dolphin info too. @acousticsorg @SoMAS

@Paolo_Segre @WillOestreich @MBARI_News Jay Barlow has a paper that estimates 37 km or 9 km (for a towed array) depending on click type. This is a great comps or problem set question - the clicks are super loud, but also highly directional. So I don't think we know the answer conclusively.

Had to do a quick sunrise swim, but recovered our first turtle tag of the season. These data will help us understand what sea turtles (like Mustang here) are doing when they are in New York. USFWS permit# ES70311D @somas @stonybrooku @NYMarineRescue

Brief tangent from lab science as the @somas Flukes & Flounderers beach volleyball teams got to watch horseshoe crabs in their mating huddles last night after our games. Unsure of the chances of true crustacean love as a few crabs attempted to canoodle with a rock and my foot.
