@CryptoGrimley @PiscoLitty That's also why I'm for a prohibition of airbags. They just make drivers to complacent about the risk of getting into accidents, encouraging reckless driving.

@Asandry4 @MegaBotScott @Snuffleuppums @ThinkingMunk @davidcrosss Establishing reputational damage is not the issue, if defamatory standard could be proven. But to do that you'd have to show that he was actually maliciously lying, i.e. knowing that it was untrue when he said it. That's where this defamation suit is dead in the water..

@holzprueghel @C_Kavanagh I'm just upset that they're completely skipping over the OGs blazing their trails. At least a shout-out would be appreciated..

@k74h747hrbe3637 @TDreezo @Yolo69521954 @powerfultakes The actual survey question contradicts this, and the authors acknowledge that they were unclear in that part of the study and didn't mean what you're claiming they did. See:
@STCNewsfeed @TrueSlazac @KevinCastley Hereβs the study author explaining that the heat map has nothing to do with the moral allocation portion of the study

@BilliusGOATus @TDreezo @Yolo69521954 @powerfultakes Don't hurt yourself on the mental gymnastics you employ to block out unwelcome facts. Here's some more of them: read the last section of the instructions and get back to us..

@Yolo69521954 @powerfultakes But it's an interpretation that contradicts the survey that the data is drawing from. It's bssically fanfiction conservatives conjured up to reframe and cope with the results and implications of the study that the figure actually represents..

@YesYoureRacist @BestChaosDoctor Why would they suddenly become coherent now? Just compliment them for being this consistently awful at everything they apply themselves to, and move on with your day..

@ErikN_NJEdition @HistoryBoomer I mean, they already are in the Rolodex of Musk and Thiel, so I'm not sure how much worse this is supposed to go. π I'm kidding, but only half. What you see as the worst-case scenario sounds a lot like the status quo that's being reported on, sans the coercion..

@ErikN_NJEdition @HistoryBoomer Essentially, the press is the last check in place, as the Fourth Estate. I'd love for there to be more, but apparently we're in the process of removing checks and balances, not strengthening them..

@ErikN_NJEdition @HistoryBoomer Fair enough. I'm not going to treat you like you are. It's just a broader vibe/read of the room I got from reading the concerns people raised.

@ErikN_NJEdition @HistoryBoomer Like I said, your objection makes sense premised on the idea that these actually are just interns with no meaningful responsibilities. But from what I'm understanding, they aren't. The issue is that the structure is intransparent (/unaccountable), so I can't confirm for myself.

@ErikN_NJEdition @HistoryBoomer Note that there is another aspect to this that makes this circumstance unique: These aren't actually government employees. They're the equivalent of mercenary forces, not beholden to the chain of command in the same way. There's no scrutiny on them, if you shield them from this..

@ErikN_NJEdition @HistoryBoomer Then feel free to discuss the logic, let me know what's wrong with my criterion or how it is applied in this case, and we can talk. I just feel like there's a lot of knee jerking going on here, people being cagey about giving an inch and then crafting their criticisms post-hoc.

@ErikN_NJEdition @HistoryBoomer The determinative criterion isn't about their salary or profile, but about their responsibilities/powers. If they're just glorified interns who are only responsible for keeping the coffee machine full, it'd be overreach. But I doubt they'd be inefficient like that.. ππ

@HistoryBoomer @ErikN_NJEdition People are seriously twisting themselves into pretzels to avoid recognizing why Musk's completely new quasi-ministry with unprecedented responsibilities would be newsworthy and would warrant journalists looking into their offices in particular.. π€‘
