When I am storyboarding, outlining, and writing one of my novels I use music to create the feeling and atmosphere I need to write a scene. The subject or meaning of the song is not always important, but the feeling is. This is one possibility for writting the moment that our hero, on a rescue mission with his platoon, fights his way into the jail in an outpost in the Northern Woods. A preview: ___________ After gunfire faded into silence, he opened the heavy cell door, and he found her laying motionless in the shadows on the floor of a drab prison cell. The awe of the moment, haunting déjà Vu, and amazement cascaded throug him, as he took her into his arms to rescue her, much as he had done in a recurring dream from his youth. Through the dense dream-like haze, struggling for consciousness, as he carried her to safety, she slowly whispered in his ear: "My Captain." _______________ If books had soundtracks, or my book were made into a film, this song is the one that people would start playing at weddings, much like a popular Brian Adam's song from the early 1990s. This book is part of a larger universe and series, and it is turning into something grand.
