I work 2.5 jobs, have a PhD, don't have student loans, and STILL cant afford to buy a home.
I live comfortably (not complaining). Apts/houses in NYC metro are 750k, it'll take me yrs to save for a 150k (20%) downpayment bc I dont come from gen. wealth.

All data is collected, analyzed and presented by humans, therefore it cannot be objective. We are inherently biased by our life experiences. The least we can do is acknowledge them. That gets us closer to "truth"

I dont think ivy leagues give u a better education. I do think they give u access to social capital. If our black and brown students start at community college rather than a 4 yr they are less likely to graduate with a degree than if they started at a 4 yr. The system is rigged

I didnt always 💜 data/quant. At 16 I got a "C" in Calc. I thought 🧮📊🔢 werent for me. I've only ever earned As. I went to Brown bc there are no math reqs. But I ❤️ d econometrics in undergrad. Not until grad school did I begin to embrace quant & now I use it for justice! ✊🏽

It is all professors’ responsibility regardless of race/ethnicity to learn how to pronounce our students names. The onus is not only on Latinx and POC professors. This also goes for all individuals, we should try our best to honor our names as intended.

I hate when ppl call me "self-made" or "pulled up from the bootstraps." I was able 2 succeed despite systemic racism bc I had bootstraps, not everyone has 2 supportive & loving parents, a safe place to sleep, food to eat, me access 2 libraries, & champions like my 2nd grd teacher
