NEW from @TTuberville on the NIH cuts: @SenTuberville “When the American people voted for President Trump on November 5th, they also voted for his campaign promise to create the Department of Government Efficiency and cut waste in the federal government. I am 100% supportive of DOGE and Elon Musk. For decades, politicians have promised to cut spending in government with zero results. Elon Musk is a genius with a proven track record of making businesses more cost efficient. We should be thanking him for being willing to serve our country in this way. If our government ends up being half as efficient and successful as any one of Elon’s companies, that would be a huge win and a welcomed change.”
NEW reaction from @SenKatieBritt to the NIH funding changes announced Friday “Every cent of hard-earned taxpayer money should be spent efficiently, judiciously, and accountably—without exception. While the administration works to achieve this goal at NIH, a smart, targeted approach is needed in order to not hinder life-saving, groundbreaking research at high-achieving institutions like those in Alabama. I know President Trump and his team want the United States to lead the world in innovation and achieve the impossible. State-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and technology—along with the best and brightest people—are needed to fulfill President Trump’s vision. We can eliminate administrative bloat and waste while not losing our competitive edge to adversaries like Communist China. I look forward to working with incoming HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., to accomplish this vital mission and ensure our nation remains at the forefront of medical innovation, research, and patient care.” — Senator Katie Britt

New statement from @BhamPolice The Birmingham Police Department is fully aware of the video circulating that captures a brazen and senseless act of violence in our community. Let me be clear: this level of lawlessness will not be tolerated in our city. Our officers and detectives immediately took the necessary steps upon receiving the initial call regarding this incident and have been working diligently to identify and apprehend those responsible. This remains an active and ongoing investigation. I want to assure the public that we are pursuing every lead with urgency and determination. The safety of our residents is our top priority. We investigate every violent crime with the same commitment and intensity, and this case is no different. We are always extremely appreciative of citizens who share any evidence or information about a crime that has taken place in our city. I urge anyone with additional information about this incident to come forward. We greatly value the public’s help, and if you have any details—no matter how small—they could be critical in bringing justice to those who committed these heinous acts in our community. To the citizens of Birmingham, I want to reinforce our commitment: We will not allow fear and violence to take hold of our city. We understand that if left unchecked, these individuals could possibly take a life in our community someday. Therefore, we must do everything in our power to prevent that from happening. To that end, our officers are on the streets, our detectives are following every lead, and we will not let this case rest until those responsible are brought to justice. -Interim Chief Michael Pickett Birmingham Police Department
EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: SHOOTOUT IN KINGSTON NEIGHBORHOOD I've obtained exclusive and shocking video of a shootout in Birmingham’s Kingston community that played out in the middle of the 11am hour on November, 29, 2024, Black Friday, just 4 blocks away from the scene of a shootout Wednesday night that killed a 22 year old man. The video comes from the delivery truck belonging to a local delivery company whose driver was making a delivery when a man approaches the truck holding what appears to be a rifle. The man disappears from the video frame as he approaches the businesses’ parking lot before you hear several shots, then the man begins to run backwards through the frame towards a car parked at the corner, exchanging gunfire with someone else not seen on the camera. After the man gets in the car and pulls out of frame, you hear several more rounds including a burst of what sounds like fully automatic gunfire. Thankfully, the source who provided the video says they don’t believe anyone was hurt, but they shared the video with @WBRCnews because of its connection to Wednesday night’s homicide, and their disappointment with what they consider to be insufficient response to the November 29th incident. The source says the Birmingham Police Department issued an incident number to the company who had to tow the truck because of the multiple bullet holes and damage to the truck, but the source says after sharing this video with investigators and Mayor Woodfin or his office, they believe the company has heard nothing more on any investigation. We reached out to Woodfin’s office and the Birmingham Police Department and are awaiting their response.

AMCC to @WBRCnews "The Commission and its lawyers are reviewing the specifics of SB72 as introduced on Tuesday and sponsored by Senators Melson, Albritton, and Sessions. However, the Commission is supportive of any measures, including legislative that would expedite the availability of medical cannabis to patients in a controlled and safe manner."

NEW: Sen. Tim Melson has introduced a bill that would effectively end much of the lawsuits holding up the license-issuing process for medical cannabis integrated licenses by kicking all appeals directly to the state supreme court, expand the number of integrated licenses the AL Medical Cannabis Commission can issue from 5 to 7, and require the AMCC to hire a consultant to determine who gets those licenses from the pool of applicants who applied before 12/31/22

Canadian Tariffs now paused for 30 days just like the ones for Mexico after the 2nd call of the day between @POTUS and @JustinTrudeau
I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border. In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering. I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million. Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together.
