@JulesEvans11 @joarhalvorsen Psychedelics work and for those in Scientology, like all religion, it works for them. What I find interesting is the grand claim parallel. MAPS has been criticized for creating a religious environment. Seems true when comparing to other religions.

@JulesEvans11 @joarhalvorsen The parallels is not in the efficacy. Psychedelics work and for those in Scientology, like all religion, it works for them. What interesting is the grand claim parallel. @drrickbarnett Scientology claims it's the only path to world peace through spiritual advancement. Psychedelic advocates making similar claims—some say psychedelics can solve racism, and a new #MAPS paper even suggests they could help the Israel-Palestine conflict. Interesting parallels.

@drrickbarnett Hey @DrRickBarnett, have you noticed how the hype around #psychedelics mirrors Scientology? Both frame trauma as the root cause of dysfunction—Scientology's "engrams" and psychedelics' trauma release promise personal freedom through clearing the mind.

@JulesEvans11 @joarhalvorsen “You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion.” L Ron Hubbard. How many parallels can we draw between MAPS, the growing cult of psychedelics, and Scientology?

@MAPS @imcfund The Aztecas elites used psychedelic mushrooms in concert with human sacrifice and cannibalism.

@hannahmdouglass I’d love to read it! When you are ready to submit , take a look at the APA journals and their calls for research. I’ve had good luck there with some psychedelic papers. Psychedelics Researches like to go for psychopharm journals, but APA is very receptive

@drrickbarnett Not everything needs to be medicalized. Psychedelics have a long communal history. Perhaps, decriminalize and leave it there so people can build their own psychedelic knowledge for their own community needs.

@JulesEvans11 @NeseLSD Suffering for healing? Hmm. That is interesting. I do think that there should be more analysis of proponents who argues these drugs has to be in concert with specific psychotherapy, even though many of them used them underground in other settings. Monopoly?

@PaulAustin3w I’m describing Murder and cannibalism of conquered villages; From babies to the elderly. Why aren’t some people able to simply acknowledge that these drugs are not a panacea? Is it because that could hurt profits?
