For the first time this winter, the polar vortex is expected to break up. π§ Although it is currently strong, it will begin to weaken over the next seven days and split into several smaller vortices by mid-February. This process could bring below-average temperatures to Europe in the second half of February. π€

Another major weather event is set to impact the western U.S. in early February. π§β οΈ The first days of the month will bring significant precipitation to the region, with northern California's mountains expected to receive over 500 mm / 20 inches of precipitation over a span of seven days: Some of this will fall as snow, accumulating well over a meter in higher elevations. Meanwhile, lower elevations face a risk of flooding.

An exceptionally strong jet stream is lingering over the Atlantic between America and Europe. π§ The image shows its speed this evening β exceeding 300 km/h / 186 mph in many areas: This has enabled planes to achieve unprecedented speeds in recent days. Remarkably, a British Airways flight to London even reached an astonishing speed of 1310 km/h / 814 mph. π³βοΈ

One storm has passed over Ireland and the UK, and another is on its way (see video). π§ New low-pressure system is expected to form in the Atlantic in the next few hours, which will affect Ireland and the UK again on Sunday and Monday. However, this time it will be weaker and will significantly slow its progress before reaching land, making it less intense:
