TRUMP: "The germ has gotten so brilliant that the antibiotic can't keep up with it ... there's a whole genius to it ... not only is it hidden, but it's very smart."
Been getting a lot of hate mail on the Sesame Place story. People asking me what race the attackers and victim are.
1) We don’t include the race of people involved in crime unless it’s relevant.
2) If you need to know this info to comprehend this story, you’re a racist.

Out of 350k mail in votes for Philadelphia only 76k have been tallied. All counting has stopped and will resume at 9am tomorrow. This in conjunction with the 3 day extension has the telltale signs of shenanigans

I cleaned out my desk today at the Inquirer’s Schuylkill Printing Plant, which the company recently announced the sale of. Lotta solid reporting took place in this room.

Having lost a relative earlier this year to COVID, I find it a little disgusting how much people are celebrating this diagnosis, even wishing him dead. I don’t like the man either, but the biggest issue our country faces is a lack of empathy. Hate me if you want; I don’t care.
The only portions of the 55-page report that are readable are a summary of the facts of the shooting, as well as the department's use-of-force policy. Both of which were already public knowledge.
Holy shit. Talk about a ray of sunshine amid overhanging gloom: After 8 years, three of which I spent working a second job, I have pried loose the vampires from my neck.
Let me tell you, from intense personal experience, that getting laid off is a torment, especially in an industry where most people hate you and want you to fail. I stand proud with
@dmastrull
and all she's been doing for us.
Today we delivered a petition of 255 signatures to our publisher to demand no layoffs.
The
@PhillyInquirer
has already offered voluntary buyouts to several of our colleagues.
Our signatures were given to, & accepted by, our Vice President of our People and Culture (HR) team.
So the Inquirer’s Regions Desk is being dissolved. For almost two years, I was part of a small, scrappy team of reporters covering four suburban Pa counties with an eye toward larger, impactful stories. It was a lot of work. Here’s some of the stuff we did that I’m proud of. 1/?

I’ve been working with

I just watched “The Paper,” and it made me miss the

Imagine being an elite art critic who probably makes more than the entire staff of most local newspapers combined and not knowing how to brew coffee at home.
About 3 poll watchers today have asked me if I’m an “operative” for a political party because I’ve stood outside polling places to talk to people. Is that conspiracy theory really more believable than a newspaper reporter interested in a local race?
Summary of my inbox and voicemail after the Delco fraud story:

It's good to be home.
I was drawn to this profession, in part, because the newsrooms of my early career were filled with colorful, misfit characters like me who all crackled with the same energy and dark humor. Working from home is me screaming into the void while my dog paces nervously.
newsrooms are special places & despite the perks of working from home, I miss them. i miss the collaboration, the comradery, the sense that together you're doing your best to put out that paper, newscast, show. the feeling that one is doing meaningful work, & not just working.
