Newly elected Tompkins/Broome/Cortland Dem Sen. Lea Webb appears opposed to Hector LaSalle’s nomination to lead NY’s highest court. If she is a “no” I believe that makes it 10 Dem senators opposed.

“Well, I'm glad he lost because if he won, he probably would have had some more champagne and, who knows, he might have hit somebody with it.”
I went out and drank my first draft beer in 14 months this weekend. My grandfather and I had talked about both of us going on a bar crawl after we were vaccinated. We never got that chance, so I wore one of his ties.
Get vaccinated.

HEASTIE: "I'm one I've been one of the longest champions of congestion pricing even when this came up with Bloomberg, but for the governor, she has her own sense of where she thinks our polling actually hasn't gone well on congestion pricing and she made a call."

NEW: NYS Board of Elections is proposing that all candidates who had verified petitions prior to the state Senate and Congressional maps being invalidated do not have to resubmit petitions.
Also lays out a timeline for a petitioning process for new candidates...
Assemblyman David Weprin says legislature is working on implementing a payroll tax before the end of the week and that there are “other proposals” New Yorkers will “find out about”.
Lawmakers are trying to end session for the year by tomorrow…

Well, yes, that is indeed me... but to be fair, I was looking at all the other lawmakers who walked by too. Somehow I don’t think Norman Rockwell would’ve painted it with Jerry Nadler though!
I generally don't get personal on here, but I had a rough night and thought it was time to share.
I lost my grandfather to covid just before Christmas.
The story isn't unique, and I'm certainly lucky to be surrounded by support, but it still stings, a lingering burn really.

Big win for former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who was pushing the lawsuit in the wake of the commission making him turn over proceeds from his pandemic-area book deal

Hochul says she regrets the comment:
“I misspoke and I regret it. Of course Black children in the Bronx know what computers are — the problem is that they too often lack access to the technology needed to get on track to high-paying jobs in emerging industries like AI."
Bronx politicians excoriated Gov. Kathy Hochul Monday… with one notable exception…
“While the Governor’s words were inartful and hurtful, I don’t believe that is where her heart is,” Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said.
An appellate court has ruled that New York's state Assembly maps are unconstitutional and a judge should redraw new ones.
The existing maps will remain in place for the 2022 cycle though.
Independent Redistricting Commission 2.0?
A judge is officially returning the map drawing process for NY's Assembly lines to New York County court where the suit was filed.
Judge asks the parties how they would suggest redrawing the maps.
Interesting: The Seneca County Board of Supervisors just voted unanimously to call on Gov. Kathy Hochul to pass the partial crypto-mining moratorium and deny Greenidge Generation's air permits.
13 of the 14 supervisors on the board are Republicans.
Good morning from the state capitol where I'm on my second pot of coffee and second to last brain cell.
The state budget bill on health and mental hygiene just dropped, which is about all of the health and mental hygiene that exists in this building at this point.

Thankfully, none of these are severe cases.
A sample of community tests showed 18/44 as Omicron.
The event was not listed on Molinaro’s schedule to press. I showed up regardless, but Molinaro’s campaign staff told me McCarthy would not take questions. I was politely asked to leave and the event was being hosted at a private establishment so I did.
Forgot I recorded this until charges were brought today. It helps shed light on the power of the bear spray rioters were using to incapacitate officers.
If you're a New York state agency and your comms person thinks just blurting out "off record" then saying a bunch of stuff is actually off record, then I might suggest getting a new comms person.

The above sentence actually means something and is grammatically correct.
Come with us on this journey where the buffalo roam.
Lawler, also speaking about gains Republicans made in swing districts in NY, says 2022 PA gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano “was one of the worst candidates to run for public office.”
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli finally breaks silence on MTA revenue after Gov. Kathy Hochul's congestion pricing decision:
"The situation compels the MTA to provide an honest and transparent accounting of what it can afford and which capital projects it will prioritize."
