In TPSC's Whitehead Lab, undergraduate student Fiona Dreesbach is experimenting with solutions of secondary metabolites common in apples ranging in structural diversity and richness. Her research questions why plants produce a diverse array of those chemical compounds.

Ph.D. students Bodie Fletcher and Matheus Ogando do Granja from the Zhang Lab recently participated in the 2024 @ASA_CSSA_SSSA International Annual Meeting-AI Innovations for a Changing Climate. Bodie shared her research poster, and Matheus gave an oral presentation.

In early November, members of the Scharf Lab visited Giles High School to teach the ninth grade about microbes with hands-on activities, including an agar art contest. The lab also had an exhibition at the Virginia Science Festival to educate visitors about bacteria.

At Kentland Farm's apple orchard, TPSC's Whitehead Lab and @HokieDining collected fruit for dining locations across campus. Each year, the lab tracks the orchard's health by gathering data on the fruit yield and the amount of damage by disease or pests. @WhiteheadLabVT

In early November, @VTresearch hosted a celebration for faculty who are making significant contributions to research and creative scholarship. TPSC faculty member @SAcimovic_VTech was recognized for receiving the largest sponsored research award of the year for @VTCals.
