Ihwo r’ Urhobo are not & were never part of the old eastern region. Whether by geography or geopolitics. Urhobos are located in the west, were in the old western region before their region “Mid-West” was created out of the Western region through a referendum in August 9 1963.

As for David Ejoor who had a dead or alive bounty on his head, escaped the govt house with a bicycle. All roads had been taken over by Biafra forces so driving would have been suicidal. He road on a 320 kilometer journey to Lagos on a bicycle through the forest at midnight.

People were massacred, women were raped. Northerners in the region were subjected to murder from Biafran soldiers as retaliation for the anti-Igbo pogrom of 1966 that happened up North. Locals had their belongings especially food items & medics taken to Enugu to support Biafrans

The 12th battalion of Biafra forces went towards the capital, Benin city. The 18th battalion moved towards Abraka, Sapele, Ughelli, Uvwie, Warri etc whilst the 13th battalion went north; facing Auchi. It was a bloodbath, as Biafra soldiers fired their weapons uncontrollably.

On August 20, a resistance group led by Urhobos raided a Biafran camp and were successful in killing 50 soldiers while 16 rebels were killed. This attack led to a raid on almost every community inhabited by anyone other than igbos in the midwest.

It didn’t take long before resistance groups sprung up and started attacking Igbo-Biafra forces occupying their region. Albert Okonkwo responded by raising a force of locals loyal to Biafra to stop the resistance groups from attacking Biafra soldiers.

Urhobo has a similar culture. An Urhobo woman cannot bless or break kolanut in the presence of men even if she’s the oldest person. She also cannot pick from the broken kolanut. The youngest man in the gathering will have to pick one for her. Why? They say it’s tradition.

I have seen takes about this Kolanut and many of you are incredibly dull. Many of your arguments are baseless and not backed up with facts. Why can't women break Kolanut? Why is it an abomination? What will happen if they do? Why were these rules made? What is the story behind

The Midwest region, created out of the Yoruba dominated western region in 1963 was a predominantly Urhobo-Edo region with Benin city as its capital. The Biafra soldiers on getting to Agbor from Asaba split into three fronts.

The official color combination of the Urhobo people is Blue & Yellow. The colors were adopted into government in 1964 when Urhobo born Samuel Jereton Mariere became the first Governor of the Midwest Region of Nigeria. They are also the official colors of today’s Delta State.

The argument between Banjo & Ojukwu gave the Nigerian forces led by Gowon enough time to line up a defense in the west. Ojukwu who went against the wishes of Victor Banjo and announced an Igbo man in Albert Okonkwo as the new head of the midwest region.

Women that were assigned to cook for Biafra soldiers poisoned them whenever they could and it was because of this, Biafran soldiers decided to only eat food that was cooked by Igbos. They seduced soldiers to get information out of them & would relay to Nigerian authorities.

Fortunately for David Ejoor, his Quartermaster, Col. Ogbemudia changed the govt house guard detail a night before the attack, replacing troops that were in on the plot to hand over David to Ojukwu. Ejoor managed to escape thanks to his guards who fought the Biafra soldiers.

The full name is Oghwo Amiedi. Oghwo means soup & Amiedi means palm-fruit water/extracts, but the name is often times shortened to Amiedi. The cooking & ingredients used for making Amiedi is completely different to how Igbos make Ofe Akwu. The only similarity is palm fruit.

But this new country would only exist for a day. As the 2nd division of Nigerian forces led by Colonel Murtala Muhammed attacked the 12th brigade of Biafran forces stationed in Ore on the 20th of September 1967.

The Biafran government would broadcast Biafran propaganda in the Midwest region whilst the Nigerian government would in turn broadcast anti-Biafran propaganda. It was a full scale war between two countries gunning to emerge victorious.

This attack forced the Biafran soldiers to retreat Ore immediately but they destroyed the Oluwa Bridge which would buy them time against the advancing Nigerian forces. When the 12th brigade retreated to Benin, instead of mounting a defense, they did something very surprising.
