While they are mostly safe, there are risks particularly for young men. If they were "perfectly safe" then there wouldn't be any risk of myocarditis, which is patently untrue. I'm not saying the cost/benefit analysis doesn't work for many/most people, but for this kid it was absolutely not worth the damage.
