@DevDLall Amritsar, on the other hand, inspite of being an IAF base, mostly serves as a de-facto civilian airport

@Suryans77795767 @btarunr Chandigarh Airport's civil operations, on the contrary, are bound by too many IAF restrictions. In fact, as mentioned, Chandigarh is a customs and not an International Airport, so flight being landing there is out of question

@saching51287546 Most likely this would not be a probable reason/valid theory because 1) Inspite of the scale of operations at Delhi Airport, it is more than well equipped both in terms of security and apron infrastructure for such flights

@saching51287546 2)If for events like G20, Delhi Airport can accommodate high security aircraft of head of states of all members countries, handling this one aircraft was peanuts for DIAL

@iJasOberoi While the point which seems like you are trying to put as to Why Amritsar was chosen over other airports like New Delhi, Ahmedabad or Mumbai is correct, but the premise that Amritsar isnt an International Airport is not.

@uday_birje No speculation, Possible reason with factual backing. Actual reason would be one or multiple of these reasons and we will never know it because it will never be out

@uday_birje If the flight which was anyways flying over Ahmedabad had to special go out of the way to land in Amritsar when majority of immigrants were not from PB, such questions are natural to arise which have been answered in this thread with no conclusive reason but probable theories
