I wouldn't trust the govt or tech. But since its all out there - why not have some good come out of it. If I were really paranoid and conspiratorial, I'd say a bunch of hackers got together and perhaps colluded to make some of the data breaches. Then different factions started to arise with ideological differences. Just like any other group. Both fiction/myth/legend. The truth would be very difficult to find. Some people track to respectability, grow, age, become the establishments, other - forever the upstarts. Just a fun short story I might write one day.
