Apart from Cultural Tourism, Sports Tourism is another promising sphere in the global tourism market, attracting millions of tourists each year. Having a Mega Sports Heroes Museum would place Kenya at the heart of Sports Tourism. Kenya is not only the Home of Human Origins but also the Home of Sports Heroes.

I join the media fraternity, the National Heroes Council and Kenyans at large in mourning the passing of the legendary media personality, Shujaa Leonard Mambo Mbotela. Until his untimely demise, he was a board member of the the National Heroes Council which is a SAGA under the state department for culture the Arts & Heritage, where he served with dedication, honour and commitment. Leonard Mambo exemplified professional journalism, he was a voice that educated, entertained, and united generations. Through iconic programs like “Je, Huu Ni Ungwana” he instilled values, sparked conversations, and left an indelible mark on our national identity. Kenya has indeed lost a true national hero, his remarkable legacy will live on in the hearts of many. My heartfelt prayers and sympathy go out to his loved ones, family and friends during this difficult time. May he rest in eternal peace.

I had an engaging discussion with the renowned P-Unit Band when they paid a courtesy call at my office ahead of their mega event, “Celebrating Kenyan Music: P-UNIT at 20 Years,” scheduled for February 8th, 2025. Our dialogue underscored the vital importance of preserving Kenya's musical heritage, protection and promotion of artists rights and how technology can be leveraged to improve monetisation and revenue collection. The State Department for Culture, the Arts and Heritage remains committed to working closely with musicians in order to showcase the talent and creativity of Kenya’s entertainment industry, contribute to the growth and development of the Kenyan music industry as well as promotion of national unity and social cohesion through shared cultural experiences.

The passing of Prof. Bethwel Ogot is a profound loss to the academic fraternity and Kenya at large. He will always be remembered for his remarkable intellectual contributions as both a scholar and historian. His seminal works, especially ‘Historical Dictionary of Kenya’ greatly shaped the understanding of our country’s history and culture. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. May he Rest in Eternal Peace.

Held a fruitful meeting with the Principal Secretary for Trade @AlfredKOmbudo and his team, where we discussed cultural goods and how to maximise their marketing particularly in the context of the EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) which Kenya has signed and other Trade Agreements which Kenya is currently negotiating. The State Department for Culture, the Arts, and Heritage will contribute to the EU EPA under the “trade in cultural goods” aspect to expand markets for the cultural and creative goods.

Hosted by H.E. @GovMohamudAli , the Governor of Marsabit County, I officiated the launch and handover of the Illeret Footprint site to the County Government of Marsabit. The illeret footprint project was successfully completed by the National Museums of Kenya under the initiative, "In-Situ Preservation of 1.5-Million-Year-Old Footprints: Evidence of Early Hominin Foot Morphology," funded by the British Council's Cultural Protection Fund. The objectives of the project included the protection and preservation of the 1.5-million-year-old footprints, advancing prehistoric knowledge, raising public awareness, and promotion of illeret as a key heritage site. The State Department for Culture, the Arts, and Heritage remains committed to preserving and promoting Kenya’s rich heritage, developing and improving cultural and heritage sites, as well as initiating entrepreneurial heritage programs that directly benefit the local communities.

Kenya and China have a time-honored relationship with the two nations enjoying strong diplomatic ties. China has over the years supported key national development projects across various sectors, especially infrastructure development. Gradually, culture and tourism have gained their rightful place in the bilateral relations between the two nations. Cultural cooperation is a vital tool of people to people contact and remains a key pillars of the strategic partnership, serving as both a bridge and a foundation for fostering mutual understanding, friendship, trust, and respect.
