Congratulations to all the recipients of this year’s NI Young Musician’s Platform Award. We’re delighted to see that one of them is Sam Kane, who participated in our Professional Experience Scheme in 2021 and has since freelanced with the Orchestra. Sam, along with the two other classical awardees Rosie Murphy and Zoë Jackson, will perform with the Orchestra in a special BBC Invitation Concert in the Ulster Hall in March.

This week, Rolf Verbeek joins us to conduct our On Your Doorstep 'Saints and Scholars' concerts in Armagh (6 Feb), Strabane (7 Feb) and Newtownabbey (8 Feb), featuring a programme of Bartók, Bloch, Vaughan Williams and Dvořák, with our very own Thomas Isaac on solo cello. Book now:

Violinist Aleksey Semenenko and conductor Alpesh Chauhan joined us at the Ulster Hall on Friday evening for our first season concert of the new year, featuring a programme of Mendelssohn, Bruch, Farrenc and Schumann.

Happy 216th birthday to composer, pianist, organist and conductor Felix Mendelssohn, whose "Scottish" Symphony we are performing at our next season concert on 14 February. Mendelssohn was originally inspired to write the Symphony, his third to be published, after visiting the ruins of Holyrood Chapel in Edinburgh in 1829, although it was not commonly referred to as the "Scottish" symphony until after his death. The concert also features Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's "Ballade" and Steven Osborne performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No.27, conducted by David Danzmayr. Book tickets:

The songs of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. were brought to life in the Waterfront Hall on Saturday night as The Rat Pack came to town.

Last Sunday we held our first "Come and Play" day of 2025, where 52 aspiring musicians of all ages at Grades 4-6 joined the Ulster Orchestra for a day of rehearsals at the Belfast Model School for Girls before performing in a showcase for friends and family. We'll be back in March for Grades 6-8 🎶
