Congratulations to all the recipients of this year’s NI Young Musician’s Platform Award. We’re delighted to see that one of them is Sam Kane, who participated in our Professional Experience Scheme in 2021 and has since freelanced with the Orchestra. Sam, along with the two other classical awardees Rosie Murphy and Zoë Jackson, will perform with the Orchestra in a special BBC Invitation Concert in the Ulster Hall in March.
Six exceptional musicians from #NorthernIreland have been awarded the NI Young Musicians’ Platform Award, supported by The #NationalLottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and @BBCnireland🎶 The six award recipients include three classical awardees, harpist, Rosie Murphy, soprano, Zoë Jackson and violinist and composer, Samuel Kane; traditional folk music awardee, uilleann piper, Maeve O’Donnell; contemporary singer-songwriter awardee, Becky McNeice, and jazz awardee, Timothy Boomer. Happy 216th birthday to composer, pianist, organist and conductor Felix Mendelssohn, whose "Scottish" Symphony we are performing at our next season concert on 14 February. Mendelssohn was originally inspired to write the Symphony, his third to be published, after visiting the ruins of Holyrood Chapel in Edinburgh in 1829, although it was not commonly referred to as the "Scottish" symphony until after his death. The concert also features Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's "Ballade" and Steven Osborne performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No.27, conducted by David Danzmayr. Book tickets:

Last Sunday we held our first "Come and Play" day of 2025, where 52 aspiring musicians of all ages at Grades 4-6 joined the Ulster Orchestra for a day of rehearsals at the Belfast Model School for Girls before performing in a showcase for friends and family. We'll be back in March for Grades 6-8 🎶
