CEO ANNOUNCEMENT Today we are excited to announce that Keisha Browder will become our next Chief Executive Officer. Browder comes to UWBA with over 25 years of experience working to advance girls’ leadership, youth well-being, economic opportunity, and racial justice, including in her most recent role as CEO of @UWSantaCruz. “My work has always been driven by my values – dignity, integrity, and compassion for all – as well as my commitment to serving and empowering people in diverse communities... With immense gratitude for my time in Santa Cruz County, I am honored and excited to bring these values to the Bay Area, where this organization is a leader in combating poverty and building equitable pathways to prosperity.” “It is with great excitement that we welcome Keisha Browder to our team,” said @gioiamccarthy, Chair of the United Way Bay Area Board of Directors. “Keisha’s tenure at nearby United Way of Santa Cruz County is a testament to her understanding of United Way’s unique ability to mobilize a region to meet community needs. Keisha possesses the philanthropic, programmatic, leadership, and political savvy to move more families towards financial prosperity. She will lead our organization with compassion, care, and a steadfast commitment to making the Bay Area a place where all people have the opportunities and resources to thrive. I also want to thank interim CEO Kelly Batson for her service to the organization and our community during this transition period.” To read more about this exciting news, visit #TheWorkUWBA

Hi friends. Have any of your marketing teams had any conversations about leaving twitter? We don't believe it is being run ethically and our impressions have been increasingly low since the implementation of the FY page v.s. the following page. So we are exploring options of leaving completely. Let us know if you had similar thoughts!

Last week we had a CEO Town Hall hosted by @bymadibolanos of @KQED! We tackled many questions and topics, including immigration, our programs, policy priorities, and changes at the federal level. Just minutes before our Town Hall on Tuesday, our Chief Community Impact Officer, Kelly Batson, had the chance to talk to NBC Bay Area on the freeze on federal grants and loans. Visit to see more on our response. Thank you for the coverage, @nbcbayarea! Visit to see photos from the Town Hall! hashtag#TheWorkUWBA

Happy Lunar New Year! Welcome, year of the snake! Today we wanted to highlight a hero of the San Francisco Chinatown community, Rev. Norman Fong! Rev. Fong is a former executive director of the @chinatowncdc (CCDC) which works with community members to help build a stronger community in Chinatown and across San Francisco. His advocacy and innovative methods of managing affordable housing and keeping it affordable has served as a role model around the country. We currently partner with CCDC and the @sfgov on the Tenderloin Community Action Plan (@TLCBD). Rev. Fong is an upbeat social justice practitioner who has been arrested several times in his defense of immigrant rights. As a grassroots organizer, he has been known to lead marches with Chinese grandmas and grandpas to City Hall to defend their right to low-income housing even when they cannot speak English. He is also a bridge-builder among the Asian and Black communities. For more than a decade, he has led the collaboration between the Chinese and Black residents of the Bay View neighborhood to organize a joint event celebrating Lunar New Year and Black History Month Now retired, Rev. Fong can be seen busy talking to Chinatown residents and found playing saxophone and singing with Jest Jammin, his soul band of more than 50 years. United Way Bay Area thanks you for your service to the Chinatown community, Rev. Fong! Your dedication to bridging our communities by supporting housing & basic needs and building resident power does not go unnoticed!
