We had more wet weather here in southern Minnesota this last week... which significantly delayed the rest of our planting tasks. Dry fields for boots doesn't always mean dry fields for tractor tires! Read more about this week's weather and crop outlook below:

@PetersenFarms You can take a look at our most recent tweets! We went out on 5/1 to take some pictures of wheat and soybean emergence, and to dig some corn seeds up to show their germination stages.

Here are some pictures of the early planting demo wheat emergence levels... wheat is a cool season grass that does well in the cool/wet weather we have had recently.

We have quite an update related to our early planting demo! Tom & Kara dug a few corn seeds from each planting to show where they are in the germination stage. Our 2 earliest dates soybeans have also emerged! You can read more in the Crop & Weather Update included below.

Time for the first installment of our Weekly Crop Weather Update! Our Feb 26 wheat is up! This winter was the mildest in our records since 1931; a full 10 degrees warmer than normal and the snowfall total was only 15.5 in. That's 37 inches less than normal! Read more below:

After another week of warm March weather, our ultra early planting demo is doing great! In the photo, you can see where our corn, soybean, and wheat seeds (left to right) are at in the germination process. For those tracking the weather... we'll have to see what happens! 👀🌨❄️

February 26 at the SWROC. No frost left, worked up nice. Might as well plant some oats. We'll see what happens. Planting corn or beans would have been silly.

When is it too early to plant? Maybe February 26th? Well, the conditions were right... so we decided to plant a small demo of corn, soybeans, and wheat. We'll keep you updated on this demo through March and April, so follow us to see what happens!
