People in tech support actually work 8 hours straight. Not all days, but there are times they can't catch a break. They do a 9 hour shift with one hour break. And while they are seated, they attend customer calls back to back.

I don't know how it goes with most airlines. But I have noticed that some airlines charge extra based on seats.
So some people just allow airline to randomly allocate seats to avoid paying extra.
And later, they ask the flight crew to make arrangements so that they can sit

The place where I grew up, in a village nearby, there was once an incident where a small kid, barely 2 years old disappeared without any trace. The entire village looked for the kid everywhere but could not find.
Many suspect the kid may have fallen into the pigpen.
