@PVPrigo The issue is not just the seaworthiness of the ships but the size of the cargo able to be carried, the journey into the western ocean would consist of most of the circumference of the globe with no ports of call along the way. You would run out of supplies.

@PVPrigo Would someone eventually have made the same decision to sail west instead of East? Of course, eventually sailing capabilities would have reached the point that someone would have tried to find the sea route to the orient. It would have not been in 1492.
