As of 8 a.m. on Sun., Aug. 29, UMMC has 143 confirmed or suspected inpatient COVID-19 cases, with 122 adults and 21 children. Of the COVID positive patients, 73.7% are unvaccinated, 6.1% are not eligible for the vaccine (under 12 years old), and 11.1% are fully vaccinated.
After launching new clinical trials this week, with more planned to start in coming weeks, the state’s only academic medical center has increased its response to COVID-19 by participating in clinical research to find a treatment for the novel coronavirus.
Beginning Friday, a UMMC parking garage will become home to a federally staffed field hospital able to care for an additional 50 COVID-19 patients, giving some needed relief to UMMC’s Emergency Department. Read the full story to learn more:
Starting in 2024, UMMC is expanding its nursing program in Oxford with a traditional BSN pathway. This will allow students to earn a four-year degree in nursing and meet the growing demand for nurses in Mississippi and beyond.
As of 8 a.m. on Fri., Aug. 27, UMMC has 132 confirmed or suspected inpatient COVID-19 cases, with 109 adults and 23 children. Of the COVID positive patients, 70.8% are unvaccinated, 6.3% are not eligible for the vaccine (under 12 years old), and 12.5% are fully vaccinated.

From one selfless act to a chain of miracles: 7 donors volunteered for surgeries, culminating in a historic seven-way internal kidney swap—the largest ever in Mississippi. After four days of surgeries, kidney patients received the gift of a lifetime.
