Prometheus stole fire from the gods & gave it to man.
For this, man would use it to propel themselves to the stars.

Special delivery to the
#SpaceX
Starbase/Boca Chica production site: a Raptor Vacuum engine! 🦖🔥
@NASASpaceflight
Three of these engines will be used to power the
#Starship
vehicle through space during orbital flights. Is this an engine for Ship 20
@elonmusk
?
Highlights for the
#Starship
program over the last month:
- Won a $2.9 billion NASA Human Landing System contract
- Launched an improved prototype to 10 kilometers
- Landed said prototype in style
You could say been pretty good for them so far. 🙂
#SpaceX
While doing flyovers of
#SpaceX
’s McGregor testing facility, NSF’s Gary Blair caught 2
#Raptor
engines on the test stand - one sea-level engine, one optimized for vacuum!
The size difference is astounding. 😮
Details in
@NASASpaceflight
’s newest article:
What’s interesting is, in that first photo, you can see a lot of
#CrewDragon
’s nosecone hardware in great detail!
Red - Draco forward thrusters
Blue - electrical and data connections to ISS
Yellow - star trackers for attitude control
Green - LIDAR sensors
Purple - docking camera
The Event Horizon Telescope team has done it again. 🤯
This is a photo of Sagittarius A*, a supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy. It took several telescopes & 300 researchers from 80 institutes to make this possible.

A quick edit I made showing the progression between the amounts of heat shield tiles on

And to think, we could soon see one with a full TPS layout. 👀

Absolutely amazing stuff. 😍
Quick comparison edit of
#Starship
’s TPS tile expansion - updated with SN15.
SN15 has, by far, the most TPS tiles of any prototype we’ve seen yet, with a substantial increase in number from its predecessor in SN11.

Welcome to space,

@NASASpaceflight
We’re live discussing the aftermath of liftoff & the next in-space activities:
#SpaceX
has filed a FCC permit request for the second test flight of
#Starship
from Starbase, Texas.
Not much pertinent information, aside from a start date of NET June 15 (of course pad repairs, vehicle testing, etc. will prevent that from happening).
According to this photo posted to
#SpaceX
investor Steve Jurvetson’s Flickr page,
#Starship
#SN9
(currently leaning on the Boca Chica High Bay) is equipped with 3 Raptor engines. How they will be used is TBD.
Side note: Elon’s got some cool shades. 😎
On February 6, 2018, the world’s most powerful operational rocket made its debut, successfully launching
@elonmusk
’s Tesla Roadster into a Mars-crossing orbit & topping it off with a double booster landing at LZ-1 & LZ-2. 🔥

Stop what you’re doing and remember this moment.
As of right now, the most famous comet in history, Halley’s Comet, is now past aphelion — its furthest point from the Sun — and has begun falling back towards the inner Solar System.
It will make its next apparition in July 2061.

Relive the magic:
#SpaceX
has updated their website after today’s
#Starship
SN8 launch attempt:
“We have additional test opportunities available on Wednesday, December 9 and Thursday, December 10. ...Stay tuned for more information on the next target test date and time.”
We were on the verge of greatness. We were this close. 🤏
Today’s
#Starship
launch attempt has been scrubbed for the day due to a pressurization issue.
#SpaceX
will recycle and try again another day.
@NASASpaceflight
#Starship
is enjoying what could be its final full day at the pad ahead of tomorrow’s launch attempt.
@NASASpaceflight
Tune in later today for an update via NSF Live from Boca Chica!
Elon Musk had hinted at some exciting announcements during his
#Starship
update on Thursday - I think we’ve got the first of many!
#Polaris
will partner with
#SpaceX
for 3 human spaceflight missions, with 2 Crew Dragon flights coming before the first crewed Starship mission.
We are proud to introduce the Polaris Program, a first-of-its-kind effort to rapidly advance human spaceflight capabilities while continuing to raise funds and awareness for important causes on Earth →
SO THERE’S THIS ROCKET CALLED SLS, RIGHT. IT’S GOT 4 ENGINES FROM THE SPACE SHUTTLE PROGRAM AND TWO BIG OL’ BOOSTERS, AND IT’S GONNA HAVE LIKE 8.8 MILLION POUNDS OF THRUST AT LIFTOFF. YOU SHOULD TOTALLY WATCH THE ARTEMIS I MISSION ON AUGUST 29, IT’S GONNA BE EPIC

Good news for SpaceX: their
#HLS
contract award cannot be modified or terminated, via a revision made to the 2021
#NASA
Authorization Act.
If the act is passed by the Senate and House, the agency will select another provider - either Natl. Team or Dynetics - for a 2nd HLS award.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk says that Super Heavy BN1 will be scrapped after being stacked in the High Bay.
So
#Starship
SN15 will be the next vehicle to head to the launch pad. Super Heavy BN2 to the orbital pad NET next month if everything goes well.
@Adamklotz_
@SpaceX
BN1 is a manufacturing pathfinder, so will be scrapped. We learned a lot, but have already changed design to BN2.
Goal is to get BN2 with engines on orbital pad before end of April. It might even be orbit-capable if we are lucky.
