I’m obsessed with your response but I’m sad because of how much that email probably hurt your feelings when you opened it :(
COVID hit when the class of 2022 was about to enter the hospital as MS3s. Nearly all of our experiences in the hospital have been during a pandemic. As a result, many of us have been fighting a burnout level we never thought we’d hit until residency. Be kind to your med students
@DGlaucomflecken
I went to office hours with a pathologist prof when I was an MS1... she was so kind and so great at explaining things. We also talked about how she met her pathologist husband and how they have a home microscope to look @ things together 🥺😍... pathologists are awesome.
I don’t understand how there isn’t an avenue for unmatched medical students/docs that is similar to the roles of an APP. I feel like making it through medical school rotations qualifies you to practice under a physician supervisor?
My medical school has an annual memorial service for the people who donated their bodies for our education. We all attend and some of the medical students perform songs, read poems, etc. We are forever grateful to our first pts & their selflessness
I’m so much more burned out studying for step 2 than step 1
Maybe it’s because we (as a world) never left the hell that began when I started dedicated for step 1.... or maybe it’s just chronic exhaustion of med school.... or maybe it’s both idk but I’m over it
Uworld: what’s the ✨next best step✨ when parent says no to necessary treatment for baby
Me: proceed with treatment for baby
Uworld: incorrect
*next question over same concept*
Me: do not proceed with treatment for baby
Uworld: incorrect
Stop trying to make med students work on the holidays. They know they’ll have to eventually work holidays. They pay to be here, whereas you get paid to be here.

@airfrance
requested a medical dr to help a passenger on board today going from Paris to Dallas. I volunteered because I assume that if they’re calling for a dr, they need one. Turns out- they only need you to help if you have your medical license with you (supposedly)
@quality_nguyen
That is unfortunate that she had that outcome after her surgery. That doesn’t mean she is qualified to dissect bodies, and surely there is someone that can hold her father responsible as the overseeing MD.
@snarkypeds
People asking why you’re at work, as if calling out every time someone at home is ill is actually an option, especially if you’re asymptomatic (and wearing a mask)😬
Would that be ideal? Yes. Is that possible? Usually no.
@urcervix_
I can imagine what you were going for with this tweet, but it isn’t coming across how I think you intended. When I was a student, I was required to scrub in for at least 1 section, in order to pass. OB can be extremely intimidating to students, as can the anatomy.
The best type of residency friendships are the ones where you can be like “I NEED TO COMPLAIN” and then you just ✨do that together✨ until you feel better
@SamariBlair
@UmoyeAlexis
I once whispered the wrong answer to a medical student. I felt so bad 😭 I bought them goodies after rounds and profusely apologized in front of the attending lol
Just remembered that during step 1 dedicated fiancé (who was not working at the time bc of COVID) would watch pathoma, pixorize, & sketchy with me for hours every day so I felt like I had a study buddy (bc I couldn’t study with other med students during the shutdown)🥺
The future is female, even in medicine. Women are the majority in medical schools and they’re entering the work force. If you have a problem with young female docs, this is your sign to get out of healthcare… bc we aren’t going anywhere. ✌️
literally terrified to take step 2 in <1 week, but also need to stay off of twitter bc tweeting doesn't actually help it just distracts from the fear 🥲
please pray/send good thoughts/any positivity my way bc I actually do believe those things help🥺
@komal_sharma_29
I would ask yourself first if it’s actually that they’re doing badly or that they’re just stylistically different from you, but still doing their work in a way that works. I honestly feel that we overdo feedback in medicine, and it’s often not productive.
I just watched a tiktok where someone was 7 days behind on anki bc of thanksgiving break… you could not pay me to go back to MS1/2 year at this point and do it again. 💀
@k10death
I once cried in a prof’s office and then she invited me over for spaghetti dinner so that I could have a home cooked meal “made by a mom.” It was really kind of her, and I’ll never forget her.
Back again with another point:
Do NOT allow this tweet, thread, info, whatever to keep you from getting help if you need it. Therapy is a great option for many people, and - IMO - it should be celebrated when someone seeks professional help.
does anyone else get really sad about how the pandemic brought out some of your friends’ true colors, or is that just me?
I don’t regret the decisions I’ve made about who I will allow into my circle, esp leading up to our wedding, but I am sad that I felt forced to make them😢
Also- I couldn’t have even pulled up my license if I tried- because wifi is out.
@airfrance
is it actually policy to require doctors to register with you ahead of time for medical emergencies, or is this just something your team demands of young female Drs?
@1goodtern
@DaliaHasanMD
Even if COVID was over, masking in hospitals to prevent the spread of any respiratory virus during patient care is a good idea
This obviously took a bit. So, during that time, the flight attendant told me something along the lines of “it’s not that emergent” and not to “worry”
Is this also common that your flight attendants make this judgment call? Are they trained for that?

No vitamin K is extremely concerning. Vitamin K helps protect babies from strokes.
No antibiotics for baby is concerning if labor becomes prolonged and there is a risk of infection spreading to the baby, OR if you don’t know mom’s GBS status- meningitis is a big deal.
@acweyand
I’d love to say they should see what it’s like in a children’s hospital right now, but I would never advocate for exposing the babies to those people and whatever bugs they’re carrying 😢
@jtrebach
@Larissaandr08
The majority of my horror stories would be the direct result of the dystopian way we as a country deal with healthcare/insurance outside of the emergency department.
@PeterHotez
I more pessimistically think they do understand, and yet this is the path they’ve chosen. Southern kids and families deserve better than this. Southern teachers deserve better than this. We are failing them. 😢
To be clear: I am not upset or offended that I was not needed. It’s enough to get this treatment at work as a physician. I don’t need it on vacation too, especially when a dr’s help was LITERALLY requested.

Do some babies make it home and out of the hospital when their parents refuse the standard of care? Yes. Do all babies? No.
To me, that’s the point here.
@HOGTOWN_DOC
Someone can be hundreds of thousands in debt due to loans and also use their loan money to invest in clothes that they’re comfortable in... or they could be influencers and getting them for free!

There is definitely a rule. The new generation of students is not following it which is great. The focus is shifting to personal wellness. Hopefully within a few years there won’t be an unspoken rule about it anymore & every student will feel comfortable leaving when told to
“Research shows that it takes 90 hours of time together to consider someone a friend and more than 200 hours to consider them a close friend that you have an emotional connection with, he said.”
Friendship is worth our time for joy & resilience in life!
How have we come to a point in society that people can now proudly openly and loudly hold this flag up, and there are no consequences to that??? This is disgusting
Another dr came to help (reportedly) and I wonder if he was subjected to the same treatment: the judgement of his appearance, the multiple hoops to jump through. I wonder if he was even asked. Other male Drs I know who have done this have not been asked.
you either need a dr or you don’t. Are

Let’s talk about that. You’re a British woman who is not living in Texas. I’m an American woman who is living in Texas. We have lost our right to have bodily autonomy and medical care. I would absolutely want my doctor this fired up, because that is my standard.
Also thought I’d throw in

No sugar water -if baby gets low blood sugar and has a seizure, that’s concerning bc mom has refused sweet cheeks
No formula is concerning because there are many times that a mom’s milk doesn’t come in or a baby doesn’t latch. How is baby going to eat if they don’t allow formula?
