If you are feeling like you are falling behind and suffering with high levels of FOMO. Read this. The average person will work their day to day job until they reach retirement in their mid 60s. Depending on how physically demanding their job was. They're likely to be screwed by the time they eventually retire. Some people work their asses off their whole life, only to be compromised due to wear and tear, or even worse, unfortunately pass away shortly before/after achieving their freedom. In trading, even if your journey takes 10+ years. You are still taking a sizeable shortcut in life. Going in all guns blazing thinking that you have to achieve this within 6-12 months is exactly why most people lose, and less than 1% of traders actually make it. While trading may not be a physically demanding occupation. It has a huge impact psychologically and can be extremely mentally taxing. So it's important that you maintain a solid and well balanced mindset. Whether this be through exercising, meditating, or taking breaks to reset. It will make a big difference in the longevity of your mental health. Implementing a framework to mitigate the emotional aspects of trading can help relieve some of the stress. Using a process based approach so all of your decisions are pre determined will not only help your mindset. It will also improve your execution. Most aspiring traders think that it's all about big wins. In reality, it's minimising the losses when they inevitably happen. It only takes one bad trade to clear out months/years of consistent progress. I find that social media can be the most toxic place at times. It looks like everyone is winning. You see colossal PnL screenshots. You see huge airdrop allocations. You see flash cars & nice watches. While some of the above will be genuine. It's predominantly fake & lies. The people telling the truth may have a completely different situation to you financially. Just because they are sizing a certain amount doesn't mean that you have to do the same. There are individuals who get lucky and achieve a high level of success in a short period. Which they will be very loud about. However, this is usually short lived. Very few will come out and say they gave everything that they made back to the market. You'll be surprised how often this happens. Just because you don't see something. Doesn't mean it's not happening behind the scenes. Focus on your own journey. Don't force anything. If it takes 5 years. That's fine. If it takes 10. That's also fine. Just follow your own process and ignore the outside noise. Treat it like you would with any other profession. Don't let the instant gratification lure you into thinking this is easy and that you shouldn't take it seriously. Other market participants rely on your complacency to take your money. The average person will study 3-10 years to finally land the dream job they wanted. They then have to start from the bottom of the company ladder and work their way up. Think about how many years it has taken just to get themselves into that position. So next time you think that you have to achieve this trading journey within a short time frame. Think again. This is a long-term thing. It will work out eventually if you put in the effort, study, stay patient, and remain disciplined. Treat it like a business and stick to the process.
