Can we make it a trend to NOT mention a NWS office when you’re watching radar? Trust me when I say this, there are MULTIPLE METEOROLOGISTS IN AN OFFICE working multiple screens at once, they know what a tornado looks like on radar, more than you do. Don’t flood their @‘s when 1/2

Today is one of those days where the only forecast you should be paying attention to is one from the NWS/SPC. If it doesn’t have the seal or it isn’t coming from a degreed meteorologist, mute it.

Today marks my 18th birthday.
Thank you mom and dad for putting up with all of my shit for this long. So many filled diapers, hissy fits, booboos, scratches, burns, and everything in between. You guys are incredible and I honestly am proud of who I am today.

Latest lightning output indicating that storms will develop off of the dryline Tuesday afternoon. Remember, not everyone will see severe weather, but those who do have the chance at very large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes (although not as high).

Everyone who was impacted by any of the strong tornadoes that touched down will be in my prayers. Catastrophic damage, likely along with several injuries and loss of life. Hoping the death toll is as low as possible.

May 31st, 2013. The birth of the strongest and widest tornado ever recorded.
The parameter space was juiced, perfect environment for several violent, long track tornadoes.
Rated EF-3, this tornado came in with winds of 302 MPH, and was 2.6 miles wide. 8 fatalities.

DFW is hanging right around 4000-4500 j/kg (even 5000 for some) of surface based instability this morning, which is what most consider extreme. With this much instability, I am expecting storms to develop this afternoon. Threats include very large hail, damaging winds and iso.tor

Latest QPF forecast has North Texas (including the metroplex) in the bullseye for some much much needed rainfall over the next seven days. Some areas will receive less than what this map calls for, some will receive up to 7”, etc. You’re allowed to get excited now!

NWS Fort Worth’s discussion is quite concerning… key points:
Large Hail, Damaging Winds and several tornadoes look probable today as the most favorable ingredients we’ve seen in a while will come together.
Tornadoes will likely become rain-wrapped quickly.

For my North Texan friends, I would monitor the forecast for Thursday very closely. DFW could very well be under a bigger threat for severe weather than originally anticipated based on the trends in seeing on the latest guidance.

For those new to Doc’s severe weather index- This is NOT an SPC forecast, nor is it really meant to be. This takes in one model, and puts the ingredients together and determines the greatest risk. Next week in general looks big, just don’t know for who 100% YET.
April 13th, 2022 has the potential to feature a 'historical-level' severe thunderstorm outbreak across the Plains. My automated severe weather index should be used as a tool where the SPC should be relied upon for critical weather information.

NWS will probably release a balloon sometime within the next couple of hours to give us a better idea of the cap. Still there, but with slowly increasing lift and an eastward-moving dryline, we SHOULD see storms later.
