46% of scrums in
@SuperRugbyAU
so far have ended with a penalty or free kick. Something needs to change. Scrums were never designed to generate penalties, further denying the game of ball in play time.
@WorldRugby
need to figure this out.
Keeping players engaged and maintaining that sense of enjoyment during these uncertain times is SO important. Inaugural Kintetsu Cup (internal game) today, a classic 3-0 in horrific conditions with a 50m pen from
@QuadeCooper
on the bell. Reckon they enjoyed it?
@liners_players
In my first piece for
@FOXRUGBY
it was really interesting to take a detailed look at the Wallabies innovative attack strategy off lineout in last weekend’s Bledisloe Cup win over New Zealand
Serious comment - Im an advocate for not allowing water carriers to be mic’d up for purposes of relaying tactical messages from box.There is an inordinate amount stoppages in the game to enable them get on the pitch. Let players make decisions!Doctor still mic’d up.
@WorldRugby
Dalton Papali'i made 29 tackles ( 1 miss 🙄) last night - the same numbers as the entire Irish starting backline 🤯 Must be sore this morning.
@autumnnations
So much excitement about Japan’s attacking brand of rugby. Here’s a piece I wrote after their win against Ireland which details why it is so great to watch.

Analysis: Japan's skillful 1-3-2-2 attack central to shock win over Ireland
Hugely excited and honoured to be joining

family. Looking forward to contributing to the program... and learning the language properly!!
1st player to reach 💯 caps for the
@MelbourneRebels
Glad I got to be there for the milestone game and humbled to have shared a chunk of the journey with Hodgey.

Hopefully members on the
@The42_ie
will appreciate this score from the
@wallabies
tonight.
@Murray_Kinsella
and I looked as this exact shape as a key strategy to beat rush defences on yesterday's analysis pod.
The game continues to baffle me. How was that not red card for Matera. His action lead to Petaia landing dangerously on his head/neck regardless of whether it was the 1st part of his body that makes contact with the ground 🤦🏻♂️
@SuperRugby
#cruvred
Understand Ireland's frustration with referee particularly around breakdown. A deep clean here followed by side clean with Moore actually looking at ref to make sure he got away with it. What happens when momentum is with one team.

@rugby_ie
@Murray_Kinsella
Regardless of the outcome, incredible achievement from Argentina’s coaching staff to get their players to the pitch of Test match intensity after such an extended break from the game.
#RugbyChampionship
A century of kicks. There was only 200 ball carries. It’s a winning template, as the Boks have proven, but terrible for the game IMO.
@premrugby
@Murray_Kinsella
Love it 👏🏼 Needs to be enforced consistently on conversions also. Bring the shot clock in for restarts post score too (think of teams time wasting when down to 14)… 30secs tops. Too much dead time, lots can be done to eradicate it & engage fans.
@WorldRugby
@Murray_Kinsella
Referee Marius van der Westhuizen not messing around with the 60-second shot clock for the Sharks' penalty here.
Scrum Stormers.
Game finished 22-22.
#URC
Late swings adding extra number to attacks proving the kryptonite to blitz defences. Difficult for defenders to number up given how tucked & late blind winger arrives. Brilliant to see & looking fwd to chatting to Kurt McQuillkin on this & more on
@The42_ie
RWE.
@Murray_Kinsella
Well done
@Panasonic_WK
and best of luck for the rest of
@JRTopLeague
Great for
@liners_players
to step up and test themselves against the standard bearers of domestic rugby in Japan. Progress has been made for the club but plenty of hard work ahead. Proud of the effort 🔴🔵
Really enjoyable week consulting at Kintetsu Liners rugby club. So impressed with the level of talent, facilitated by excellent rugby program. Great to catch up with some familiar faces too. Best of luck for the season ahead.
@nickstiles767
@HedgerSean
@QuadeCooper
The decision from Jamie Joseph to keep his national players out of Super Rugby and essentially have a 9 month build up to this game has been well and truly justified.
#JAPvIRE
#RWC2019
For me the most interesting aspect of
@QuadeCooper
return is the defensive side of the game. His progress in this area will surprise a few I suspect. Hopefully
@wallabies
can get parity up front to allow his attacking skills flourish.
#RugbyChampionship
Wow just finished watching
@SixNationsRugby
! Brilliant performance from
@IrishRugby
, Tagdh Furlong is officially England’s Kriptonite! Gutting way to lose for Wales. End game reminded me of Ireland v NZ 2013 💔
Heartbreaking for
@MelbourneRebels
not to get the W. Margins are so small. Tough 6 day turnaround and trip to Perth but no doubt they’ll continue to show the resilience they have displayed for the last year on the road. Trending in the right direction. 🔵🔴
@SuperRugby
As tough as they come. Joe had a massive influence on me, I yearned for his respect and would have ran through 20 brick walls for him. If even one player I coach during my time holds me in the same regard I’d be a happy man. RIP Joe Mac 🟢🔵♥️
Name and shame the removalists that broke the rules and then once found out continued to try and deceive those trying to trace their steps. Disgrace. Dire consequences for the state. Accountability sadly lacking in all walks of life in today’s society.

Picking up my game 🎙 Thanks so much
@The42_ie
and
@Murray_Kinsella
for sending it over. Looking forward to a new and improved voice on the podcast next Monday 😂
Historic win for Ireland. Delighted for all involved. A series win would be a huge achievement for the group. They’ve been the more threatening / creative team over the 2 Tests. Striking the lack of coherent attack NZ have manufactured in 160 mins of rugby.
#NZvIRE
Really enjoyed our 1st Live show together previewing the New Zealand v Ireland Test Series. Thanks to everyone for coming and supporting

Rugby Weekly Extra POD. It was worth the trip home. Until next time Dublin ☘️🍺
Big win for
@Toolan82
and co. in Kintetsu Liners vs. Munakata Sanix Blues in the Top League play-offs, 31-21.
Despite a red card in the 44th minute, the Liners - who came 2nd in the Top Challenge League to qualify for the play-offs - beat the Blues, who play in the Top League.
To clarify the offside law for some. A ruck is not required to make an offside line. This was brought in after the farcical scenes in England v Italy Six Nations a few years ago. Whether the ball is out of not is irrelevant as the French players never were in an onside position.

No suspension. My goodness
@WorldRugby
A deliberate act of foul play that could have led to paralysis and not even deemed worthy of a Red Card. Totally and utterly wrong decision and a really bad look for the game.
Great having big Geoff Parling on the

What an incredible two months in Japan. 10 World Cup Games, 5 cities, 6 rugby clubs, hundreds of trains, caught up with old friends, made some new ones, learned so much and ate plenty.…
New Zealand faced with significantly different linespeed this week, especially when trying to play three pass sequences from sideline breakdowns. AB forwards not afforded the time to tip. eg Tuilagi hit on Retallick.

Nice stuff from Kintetsu Liners during their 70-33 Top Challenge League win over
Shimizu.
Will Genia finds Quade Cooper, cross kick, Joshua Nohra wins it, grubbers for Genia to score on back of positive support line.
@Toolan82
a happy man no doubt!
Actually look forward to Mondays now because they involve a podcast chat with
@Toolan82
.
The latest rugby pod for members of The42 is live now, with in-depth analysis of Ireland's defeat in Paris.
Great angle to demonstrate the impact attackers swinging late into shape has on defenders. Brilliant workrate from Arnold, Larmour denied the opportunity to nominate and set square.

we've been talking about it for a while 🤓
