Do Cubs have a celebration planned tonight if they clinch a playoff spot (but not the division)?
Maddon: "I don't know. I'm not a part of any planning committee. That's up to Angela, Phyllis, Pam and Oscar."
Yu Darvish on the Astros:
"Olympics, when players cheat, they can't have a gold medal, right? But [the Astros] still have a World Series title. That makes me feel weird."
Ben Zobrist strikes out Yadi Molina on a 70 mph pitch in the dirt.
That will be the final pitching out recorded in the 2019 Cubs season and in the Joe Maddon era.
After Morel got down 0-2 in the final AB, he looked back at Contreras, who reminded him to take a deep breath.
Morel said that helped him refocus and ultimately led to the walk-off sac fly.
Strop said Javy was super frustrated in dugout after the first strikeout because deGrom wasn't throwing him any fastballs, just sliders.
"I told him, 'That's good you know that. Go up there with another plan - do your thing. You're gonna win this ballgame.'"
And then he did.
The Bears have the following players under contract thru at least 2020:
Trubisky
Cohen
Robinson
Gabriel
Miller
Burton
Long
Leno
Daniels
Hicks
Goldman
Nichols
Mack
Smith
Amukamara
Fuller
Jackson
Yes, NFL windows can slam shut in a hurry, but that's a damn good multi-year core.
Bote finds out his third kid will be born tonight, watches the Cubs' quickest game of the year get extended by a blown save, takes it upon himself to end the game and bolts immediately for the airport to join his wife in Colorado.
His story just keeps getting better and better.
Anthony Rizzo sat in the stands today as the Cubs had their socially distanced team meeting and he said he wants to buy season tickets where those seats were.
"That view of Wrigley Field - I've never seen a view from that angle before. I was just blown away."
Does Nicholas Castellanos consider himself a home run hitter?
"I don't consider myself anything other than just somebody who loves to hit - kick high, swing hard, ya know?"
Javy just hit back-to-back HRs left handed during BP.
And these weren't cheap shots. Both blasts went about 10-15 rows up the right-center field bleachers.
Hamels on first taste of Cubs-Brewers at Miller Park:
"When you have a majority Cubs fans in the stands, I don't know if that's a rivalry yet. I've been in rivalries. They're not gonna like me for the comment but you can look at the ticket sales."
Arrieta on being reunited with Contreras:
"I can see the look in his eyes - he’s focused. It’s nice to see him smile. He gave me a big hug, he almost hurt me a little bit. Same thing with Rizzo. It was nice to hug that guy this morning. It was good to see him again."
Ian Happ said the fans in the left field bleachers signed a ball and gave it to him today.
"All the fans, they’re there every day no matter what. No matter the weather - April until now - they’re there every single day and they care so much. That was really meaningful."
Javy: "We're already champs. We won in '16. Our fans waited 108 years and this is only the third [year since]. We got a few more years to make it happen before 108."
Reporter: "Actually it's only the second [year]."
Javy: "The second. So we got even longer!"
Anthony Rizzo on the return of fans at Wrigley:
“That was incredible. I took an extra moment when I took the field to appreciate them being here and their cheers and being able to play in front of them. It was definitely something I’ll never forget - taking the field today."
Yu Darvish said he got a warm welcome from Cubs fans, who tell him to come back to Chicago.
His response?
"It's hard to express the feelings in words so I just get these smiles. The fact that after 4 years, they're still sending me warm words, that just makes me happy."
Javy on Cubs; 6-game winning streak:
"It feels great to hear that. First 10 games of the season, everybody was talking about us. Now where's everybody?"
Kris Bryant:
"There's something about playing a night game under the lights in October. We're gonna embrace the challenge tomorrow and come out ready to go. It's a different path to get to where we want to be, but hopefully we're the ones writing it."
I cannot even process this right now. David Bote has singlehandedly given Cubs 2 Ws in games they should've lost with 2-strike/2-out homers in bottom of the 9th.
If somebody wrote a Hollywood movie about David Bote, it wouldn't even get made because it's so unbelievable.
David Ross on seeing Kris Bryant today:
"When you see the All-Stars walk in the room, especially when they're like 6-6 with beautiful blue eyes, it makes you smile. And the great haircut that he has. I was telling him, too, he's got a tan this year."
Marcus Stroman: "I truly believe Hendricks should be the Opening Day [starter] just because of his career, how unbelievable he’s been in the playoffs. His resume speaks for itself. He’s the guy who should be handed the ball each and every Opening Day as long as he’s here.”
Hoerner on 1st Wrigley game:
"It was amazing. It felt like I had always hoped it would. It definitely lived up to the hype. I had hyped it up to my family a lot just from seeing one game here last year - I said it was unlike anything I had ever seen before and they agreed."
I'm blown away by the impact David Ross *still* has on this Cubs team nearly 3 years after he last played.
When asked about his 5 yrs in MLB, Javy Baez brought up Ross unprompted and how the former catcher told him to just play and let the game teach him what he needed to know.
Jake Arrieta said he spent the last couple days driving about 12 mph on his little scooter around Wrigleyville, interacting with Cubs fans when he could:
"I look forward to more scooter rides and meeting more people."
"Cubs fans are just different. ... It's just different [in Chicago]. They travel. Yankees fans travel too, but it's a different kind of feeling you get. They don't quit on you."
Kerry Wood on Cubs fans, 2016 memories and more:
Darvish petitioned to start the 1st game of 2nd half. Why?
"Last year, I didn't do anything. I want to pitch a lot of games this year. I know the first game after the All-Star Break is tough for the pitcher and everybody, but I believe I can do it, so I told him I can pitch."
Cubs gift Lester a set of seats from Wrigley and a giant W flag with messages scrawled on it.
Ross, Rizzo and Happ out there to present Lester with the gifts.
I didn't realize this initially, but Rizzo joked postgame about how David Bote's third kid being born tonight is a "grand slam baby."
It's exactly 36 weeks (and a little over 8 months) since Bote's ultimate grand slam.
How did Cubs bullpen find out that the team signed Kimbrel?
Right after the news broke, Schwarber went out to LF and was doing the Kimbrel arm dangle as he played catch with bullpen catcher Chad Noble to warm up for the inning.
The Cubs have a +111 run differential but only an 82-74 record.
The Braves have a +113 run differential and a 96-61 record.
The Brewers have a -2 run differential and an 86-70 record.
You can't predict ball.
Young fan asks Daniel Descalso which fan convention is better: Cubs or Cardinals?
Descalso didn't even let him finish the question before he said: "This one."
Fans from a rooftop in LF chanting each Cubs player by name until they get a nod or wave.
Chanted Happ first, then Heyward, then Schwarber, then Javy, Nico, Bote, Rizzo. Every player acknowledged
Apparently Rizzo - aka the Greatest Leadoff Hitter of All Time - guaranteed his starting pitcher Cole Hamels at least 1 run in the first inning today.
The Cubs actually staked Hamels to a 2-0 lead after the 1st inning today.

in 2006, the Cubs signed one Alfonso Guilleard Soriano.
He went on to play 889 games in a Cubs uniform, hitting 181 HRs and making a pair of NL All-Star teams.

in 2016, Ben Zobrist laid down a perfect bunt to jumpstart the Cubs offense and Anthony Rizzo borrowed Matt Szczur's bat to break out of his slump as the Cubs won Game 4 of the NLCS

Castellanos talked a lot today about his emotion on the field and wore his heart on his sleeve as he played in the pennant race with Cubs.
"I enjoyed the shit out it," he said.
Marcus Stroman NL ranks:
Wins - 9 (1)
ERA - 2.28 (1)
QS - 14 (1)
IP - 98.2 (1)
WHIP - 1.02 (1)
bWAR - 4.0 (1)
Looks like he's on a collision course with starting the All-Star Game for the NL squad.
Willson Contreras had his family at Wrigley for Opening Day and took a moment to soak it all in:
"I told my wife I get chills every time I think of Opening Day. Once I stepped out there, I was almost tearing up. This place is so special to me. I will always keep it in my heart.”
The Cubs slashed .342/.430/.570 in the 3 games in Texas, scoring 28 runs on 39 hits with almost as many walks (18) as strikeouts (21).
That's a 1.000 OPS *as a team* and only 1 victory to show for it.
Zobrist on his experience playing at Wrigley Field over the last 4 years:
"It's the big leagues of the big leagues. That's the way the fans make you feel. ... It's hard to beat the experience of being a Chicago Cubs player, especially when you walk out on that field."
Maddon on Jason Heyward:
"Right now, he's leading us. He's absolutely leading the offense right now. And even what he's done on defense, he's very much take charge out there. He's always interacting with people. Give the guy a lot of credit."

Hunter Bigge recorded his first MLB strikeout Tues night in Baltimore and his family was hyped.
More on the Cubs rookie's emotional path to the majors:
Craig Kimbrel gave up 2 ER in 36.1 IP with the Cubs this season.
He just gave up 3 ER on a single swing of the bat against his former team in the 8th inning here at Wrigley.
