Discussion on AI under #UNGDC started yesterday. I said: multi-stakeholder cooperation should protect and empower individuals by minimizing risks and maximizing benefits. One of the greatest issues of our time. YN Harari’s NEXUS proved to be a useful read.
Today, we held the first meeting of the intergovernmental process to identify the terms of reference and modalities for the Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence and the Global Dialogue on AI Governance, key elements of the Global Digital Compact. This process is crucial as AI developments are exponential and transformative.

In addition to lectures, there was also a panel discussion entitled “Rule of Law in International Community-Perspectives from the Global South⬇️ It wrapped up TILS2024 with positive note and seemed to be appreciated by many. So I hope you enjoy it as well!

In addition to WG on rules, JPN has repeatedly held pen for Afghan file in #UNSC, i.e. 🇯🇵 has been drafter/coordinator for SC outcomes on Afghanistan. At the end of current term, 🇯🇵 succeeded in securing consensus on press statement today⬇️ I thank other members for cooperation🇺🇳
📣#UNSC Press Statement on #Afghanistan, drafted by #Japan 🇯🇵, has been issued. ▶️urged Taliban to reverse restrictive policies for building confidence ▶️underscored engagement incl. through UN Doha Process is critical ▶️emphasized the importance of developing a political roadmap

JPN wraps up #UN SC term with yet another revision of Note 507 on SC rules. Every time 🇯🇵 comes back to SC it chaired the WG on rules(IWG) and compiled/revised Note 507. Congratulations for the chairperson, Amb/PR Yamazaki, and his team!
At Press Stakeout, Amb YAMAZAKI highlighted a few pts of revised Note 507 & reiterated #Japan’s commitment to the improvement of #UNSC working methods. Now that the Note is adopted, UNSC needs to implement these provisions into actual practice Full text👇
