I'm a former newspaper reporter: Peterborough Examiner, Ottawa Journal, Toronto Star, Ottawa Citizen/Sun. That's Lake Huron up top.

I'd like this website to check back in when the 80 cm/31 inches of snow falls. Just really.
We could possibly looking at 80cm of snow in the forecastable future. This is only 180 hours out, it is not fantasy land. #onwx #onstorm #toronto #wxtwitter #xwx

Ottawa has gained a full hour of daylight since winter began — 9 hours, 44 minutes now; 8:42 back then. We're gaining another 2 minutes 35 seconds a day, and accelerating. #ottnews

@TheKentAcorn Well, that's certainly more detail than I expected! In Toronto when I was tiny (1960) we always picked up the flowers as they fell in June and could taste a tiny burst of sugary stuff at the base of the flower. I still do. I also like the leaves -- a funny yellow-green.

@ShariAStewart Evangeline, the poem by Longfellow, describes the forced evacuation of French settlers from Atlantic Canada, a region then known as Acadie. The word Cajun is derived from Acadian (drop the initial A) or in French Acadien. 1605-17XX?

@ShariAStewart Sunny and minus-3 C (about 27 F). Gorgeous. This is good for our annual winter festival, Winterlude — excellent snow conditions, and good ice on the 5-mile rink on our canal. Some people in central Ottawa can skate to work.

@ShariAStewart Yes, I see the family resemblance. Funny that you in Texas and I in Ontario both follow the same Brit photographers. PS snowy here too. Lake Huron icing over.

@WGFBruin Retired in late '24 but is still emeritus at ECCC. He told me that means doing the same thing for no money. He enjoys it. Can't count the # of times over the years he actually asked whether I would mind if he did a little research before answering my latest question.

@MaureenPlatts I like the last bits of snow under the trees to the right, and I think also in the shade of the little stone wall, lower left.

Environment Canada recently took five-and-a-half years to answer an Access to Information request from me, and a funny thing happened. The answer became more relevant with time, not less. via @ottawacitizen

@TheKentAcorn Our family has a bunch of eastern hemlocks (Tsuga canadensis) that enjoy cool, dim, damp conditions beside a lake on the northeast side of a steep, forested hill. (Shot just after sunrise, when they do get brief sunlight across the water):

Ha! I just got kicked out by a fake science journal! Almost as good as being featured in @retractionwatch.
