It’s stressful times, and you can use an immersive experience. L.A. has a terrific one in ‘Great Gold Bird.’ Think of it as a live action video game. It explores difficult subjects — grief and loss — but does so via play, giving us a sense of control.

I went in skeptical. I came away charmed. As someone who suffers from insomnia, Nintendo’s Alarmo is joyfully prodding me to keep a schedule. We need more devices centered on play; fewer focused on gamification.
