Today I was made aware of a prototype ROM that was dumped a week ago of a unreleased Shantae game on Nintendo DS! Let's talk about it, and let me share what I found! 🧵(1/7)
For some reason I can't rip the face so he's just sorta faceless. I do have the textures tho, there's two and the second one has blood and has his face stitched?? It's found in Game\Developers\Simone\Resources so maybe the developer was making a joke but still very weird
Since Honey has been ripped, the floodgates for ripping models from Sonic the Fighters has opened wide open, and we have yet another undiscovered character, METAL KNUCKLES appears in the very end of the model data... but he doesn't, I made it up, again.

Behold, the most obscure screen in Sonic CD ever! This screen only appears when you have gotten a Good Ending with all the Time Stones, and obtained low enough Time Attack records to unlock the Visual Mode.
Digging within the files of Sonic the Fighters have proven fruitful, as I have discovered two, or rather one new fighter previously not documented and it's a doozy! HEAVY & BOMB from Chaotix! Or at least I would have said that if I didn't make this.

I got really curious what that Racing With Ryan game was made in so I downloaded the game real quick, surprised it wasn't made in Unity

Earlier, some Wapeach discussion reminded me of the the most obscure reference ever. In Super Mario Maker, if you ground pound with a big Goomba Shoe, some dust will come out. It's a reference to Super Donkey (a Nintendo game that was leaked) where ground pounding looked similar!

Earlier this year I made a mockup for a water based zone for Sonic 3D Blast on the Sega Saturn, with

who produced a song for it.
I concepted, modeled, and animated the water in blender and manually dithered it for true authenticity!
So uh, GOOD NEWS
In a unexpected twist, about a month ago, the tools to extract the models from Yo-Kai Watch: Puni Puni were updated with support for the newer models. This FINALLY means I have my hands on the fantastic Puyo models in the game!
So this tale has a bit of a bitter end, the tool I found did not work for the Puyo models since they use a newer format of ez and ymd format the converter cannot do.
But, I was at least able to rip this cute Lum model from the game as a consolation prize c:

Even more suspiciously, this enemy has appeared multiple times in some of the mainline games in the series, still in the unused role. Perhaps this specific enemy just doesn't fit within the confines of what a typical Mario baddie is.
Even though I am not a fan of Sonic Speed Simulator, it is very neat seeing the first official in-game 3D model of Vanilla the Rabbit ever! I had to learn to rip from Roblox games, which was a first for me.

To anyone who is interested in these versions of the games, please note that SADX is a pretty rough port, the lighting especially is much worse. If possible, play the Dreamcast original, or use the "BetterSADX" mod (when it is updated) to make it look and play much better!

The ROM features 4 modes, "TEST Shantae" which shows the Shantae model ballet dancing, "TEST Platform" which plays with a 2.5D perspective, "TEST Full Roaming 3D" has a 3D camera and controls, and "TEST Diablo mode" uses the bottom screen & touch controls. (2/7)
Additionally, there is a model for Omi, from another American animated cartoon, Xiaolin Showdown. This is interesting because to my knowledge, there is no DS game developed by them for that series. The last model of note seems to be a developer in-joke named "wafer_002". (6/7)
Datamining the ROM, here is a clearer view of the Shantae model, amongst some other versions of said model. Additionally, some models and texture names refer to the model as "ShantaeDS". This model is notable as this is the ONLY official 3D model of Shantae! (4/7)

Amongst the data is of all things, Jake from the American animated cartoon, American Dragon: Jake Long. These assets are likely early leftovers from WayForward's game from that series, as this ROM seems to reuse the engine from that. (5/7)
The last two modes are notable since this ROM was built in 2007, while Risky's Revenge released in 2011. This means that WayForward might have experimented with all these styles and ultimately chose to go with 2D to be more safe as the only other game was on Game Boy Color. (3/7)
I'm thinking about how @/Stixstixy ripped this model of Honey which I had been searching for since 2016, and ever since I got my hands on it, I don't know what I want to do with it since I never thought I'd get this far LOL
Oh my GOD this finally came in the mail. I ordered it in 2022 but it came today in 2024. Fantasy Zone is a shmup I love because the aesthetic and music is so pleasant! I put the large statue in my room (which is next to my Hikaru keychain, another shmup I love!)

I don't actually have much developmental stuff other than the early body, how I did the head and an early complete model since most of the heavy lifting was from Heavy & Bomb (how I did them is also part of that thread)
In this screenshot you can see what I was emulating, harsh black shadows which don't project on to the characters itself but rather the floor. Also the use of sharp quads to assemble the characters, and tests were rather successful!
This was made as a warm up. I was thinking about the rumored "Super Kid Icarus" game that was mentioned in various magazine blurbs and decided to make a sprite of Pit as a SNES style sprite.
Damn, 500 likes. Might as well talk about this in more detail. I have dubbed him "Prism Sonic" since he encompasses all the colors a prism would reflect, including the the white gem. This prism motif also is reflected design itself as it is much more triangular and exaggerated.
Hi yes? This blew up. This is my first ever animation regarding 3D models and not sprites, and it is possibly one of my most experimental and interesting ones yet! Lots of time went into the research of how the model 2 renders polygons and matching the style to a tee.

One LAST detail, I actually went as far as to make Heavy's springs which are shown in a couple of frames of animation in Chaotix. They are a shapekey, similar to the way Tails' tails and Fang's spring tail are handled with different meshes. That's bout it, thanks for reading! :V

This is bothering me a lot, I saw a screenshot pop up on twitter around the release of Sonic Mania which had Super Sonic fighting the Titanic Monarch in the Special Stage. It had a rainbow speed meter and "Mach Infinite" too, and I can't find it anywhere. Mockup by me for ref.
I originally was going to put the turntable camera on the Giant Wing which I ripped, restored, and even was getting close to put the animation of Heavy & Bomb on scene. But in a last stroke of genius I instead quickly ripped the CSS icon to create the final product.
