For the past year, our office has been dealing with people sending us 'fake reports' through our online reporting form and it's ruined any sort of trust we have in the reports coming in. If you're young and interested in the weather, please find other ways to entertain yourself.
Omg these kids live on YT literally discussing making a fake spotter report 🤦🏼♂️ a good reminder to not just trust anyone with your weather coverage. Sad.

This was probably the most impressive tree damage we saw yesterday. This isn't an uprooted tree, it's the top part of the tree which has been impaled into the ground. This is close to 'the point' where we're looking into whether to go to an EF-3 or not.

27 COVID deaths yesterday in WI. If we had a tornado that killed 27 people, we'd learn all of the details of the circumstances for whether they were at home, driving, etc. I feel like that's a part of this COVID deal that hasn't thoroughly been shared and would make an impact.

Disheartening survey day today. Didn't talk to one person in West Allis that was in the tornado damage path that sought shelter. They all said they knew it was coming but chose to ignore/ride it out. Some had removed WEA from their phone. Others went outside to video.

**Tornado Survey Information**
4 EF-0 tornadoes have been confirmed with yesterday's storms. They occurred near Nashotah, West Allis, Lake Geneva, and Burlington. All were short-lived with winds between 65 and 75 MPH. See the associated images for more details.

A couple times today, I was close to tearing up with people on the survey. People that could have been in a bad spot w/o the warning. People that lost pets. People having a shitty year…then this. Friends and family concerned about what to do now.

Did a career fair for middle school kids in Oconomowoc on Friday and asked each group (8th graders) where they get weather info from. Most, if not all, said the app on their phone. If we (NWS) ever want to connect with the younger population then we need an app too.

A note to the young weather enthusiasts out there. Don't make a name for yourself by sending in bogus weather reports on storms. We're able to weed them out quickly via the online form because the IP address doesn't change yet the position of the reports change drastically.

Beyond WEA, I think that the next level of warning dissemination needs to be with home assistant devices like Alexa, Google Home, etc. Seems like a slam dunk great way for people to be alerted to warnings, much like a weather radio but geo-targeted. Someone make it happen.

Severe storms are expected today, especially in the evening. Storms are also possible in the morning and afternoon. A widespread severe weather event could occur this evening between 6 and 10 PM with damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes. Have a way to receive warnings.

Our office supported gov’t folks in town to help keep the RNC a safe event. I was in the JIC down in the outer perimeter while other MKXers were in other command posts around the county. Monday was the busiest day with the derecho just barely missing us. A few pics on my end.

Tougher survey day than was expecting.
-Sheep killed at the first barn in IL
-Couple was visibly shaken at a horse farm where this door blew in while they were feeding the horses. Lady was standing just a few feet to the left of where this door ended up.
Two tornadoes occurred in Walworth County on Tuesday afternoon, one rated EF-0, the other rated EF-1. See the attached graphics for more detail.

Just a reminder to not jump on data points showing up in the DAT as it can be a work in progress with QCing data. The office was updating times on data points and the field work went out before we could adjust that point back down. Still combing through info.
The tornado track near Evansville to SW Jefferson Co is a high end EF2. Crews are still assessing damage, no ETA on additional information at this time.

Coldest tornado survey I’ve done. Beloit got rocked. Lots of roofing lofted off barns/storage garages in Walworth co. Weirdest thing was finding a random pool skimmer along a county road which looked to be from the tornado but didn’t have any houses nearby.
