My methodology is a mixture of pantsing and planning... Plantsing may be a good name for it. Story pops in my head first. Then the title. Then the front cover. Followed by 30-40 chapter titles. And then I have my stepping stones to the story. I write a few lines per chapter and hey presto it all begins to flow.
