The Chairman of the USPS Board should not be running a Super PAC for the party trying to block voting by mail. Duncan should step down from the board immediately.
🚨 NEW: in paperwork filed minutes ago, USPS Board of Governors Chairman Robert M. Duncan is listed as Director of Mitch McConnell's $130M super PAC, Senate Leadership Fund.

But yeah…can’t name one 🤷♀️🤷♀️
Meanwhile, you literally cannot name a political position on which the right has moved right. It does not exist. The right has actually moved Left overall on issues ranging from gay marriage to deficit spending. By "moving right," the media means reacting to Left-wing aggression.

Playbook is ending a wild year by coming up with excuses to defend the media's failure to properly cover the GOP's outright attacks on democracy.
Make no mistake: GOP elected officials and candidates are committed to rigging, sabotaging, or overturning our elections.
For better or worse, campaign coverage emphasizes what candidates are doing/saying. If Democratic candidates aren’t talking about the anti-democratic movement, and Democratic leaders aren’t doing it every day, the coverage reflects that. More in Playbook:
There’s an increasing amount of talk within Democratic circles about how we’re going to lose in November — how tough the Senate map is, how the head to head Presidential numbers look bad. I’ve heard about influential people writing off whole battleground states 9 months out. 🧵
Had a blast this evening with my friend, Rep.
@katieporteroc
. We talked about her campaign for reelection and the fight against corruption she continues to wage in Congress every day. Thank you so much, Katie. We're so proud to support you.
We won’t just call him our hero - we will act like it. We will not let him down. We will fight for the Freedom To Vote: John R. Lewis Act. We will not be gaslit, we will not grow weary, we will win.

Voting is more than just filling out a ballot—it’s about giving the American people a voice and allowing them to be heard.

This kind of chatter, despite our electoral wins in New York’s most recent special election and up and down the ballot over the past 3 cycles, dismisses the very real progress we’ve made across the country.
Thread: Today is a disappointing day in the history of America’s experiment in democracy. The U.S. Senate — effectively sabotaged by Senate Republicans wielding their Jim Crow filibuster — failed to protect our most sacred and important right: the freedom to vote. 1/x
Voters are rejecting MAGA extremism. If we continue building on this momentum with hard work and discipline, we can take this fight all the way to November and we can win.
But we have to have hope.
Last week, despite a narrow poll margin,
@Tom_Suozzi
overwhelmingly won the special election in
#NY03
. This was a huge win over MAGA extremism and put control of the House one seat closer for Democrats. But let’s go back in time and review some other elections…
Happy Birthday
@SpeakerPelosi
! Thank you for showing us all how to lead with strength, compassion, and grace. For fighting for the people every single day. You are the hero of our household.
What happens next matters.
In the past, efforts to build "unity" and "consensus" in Washington have too often meant turning over the keys to giant corporations and their lobbyists.
We can't let that happen again.
Partisan redistricting, big dark money, voter suppression and election sabotage: we're going to end it all. The fight to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act is here, and we're ready to win.
#WeWantVotingRights
Election fraud is rare in America but now it has a face and that face is Senator Lindsey Graham. A sitting senator pressuring a fellow Republican to throw out ballots to benefit President Trump after Joe Biden won Georgia is shocking.
"The truth is that Republicans have made restricting the freedom to vote a central part of their platform, and they have rejected every proposal, compromise or not, that has come their way." -

House Republicans show no spine. Santos, facing 13 federal charges, stays in office because they prioritize self-protection over the American people. Their 'tough on crime' talk is a sham. Today's vote is a stark reminder. They should feel ashamed.
In 2017, PA-18 was considered a likely Republican seat. When Democrat Conor Lamb ran, Republicans spent $8 million in television ads, more than double Democratic spending. Against the odds, in March 2018, Conor Lamb won.
Corruption at the Supreme Court undermines our democracy. The Court should be working on behalf of the American people, not super rich billionaires.

[ENDORSEMENT ALERT] We're endorsing
@JoeBiden
for President of the United States. Vice President Biden is committed to fixing our broken democracy while running a

campaign for the presidency. We're proud to have his back.
It’s safe to say we all held our breath on November 3rd, 2020 as we faced the potential of another Trump term. But when the votes were counted, not only did we take back the Oval Office, we kept the House and flipped the Senate for our first trifecta since 2010.
In 2018, with Trump’s far-right stranglehold over American democracy, Republicans had control over the White House, House, and Senate. But in November, Democrats won back the House with the highest seat gain since 1974 and the largest midterm popular vote margin since 1986.
But we must change our narrative. When we only focus on the bad, we lose sight of the very real victories we’ve had and depress very real resources that these campaigns need.
Regardless, it's the media's 1st amendment responsibility to report the facts and to hold those who would seek to overthrow democracy accountable - they could do so with as much vigor as they covered the difference between sending an email from a work account or personal account.
Despite their claims to the contrary Dems have been lifting this issue and sounding the alarm all year. From fighting tirelessly to pass the
#FreedomToVote
Act to holding those accountable for almost democracy to fighting this GOP power grab.
And the blue wave didn’t stop there. Voters across the country turned out in 2022 to flip 4 legislative chambers and create Democratic trifectas in Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Michigan — which hadn’t had a Democratic trifecta since 1984.
2022’s House polls projected a sweeping victory for Republicans. Once again, Democrats beat the odds and outperformed expectations, winning seats in critical districts that no one thought possible and holding the Senate majority against all odds.

Just over 3 months ago, Republicans held a trifecta over Virginia’s House, Senate, and Governor’s office. On November 7th, voters took to the polls in the legislative election and resoundingly rejected MAGA extremism, electing a Democratic majority to both the House and Senate.
Over the past 7 years, from ballot measure to federal office, we’ve defied the odds in election after election because the voters understand the contrast and choice that we are facing. We’re trending in the right direction, and we can win in 2024.
As a closeted and scared 16 year old in rural Missouri, the life that I lead now seemed like a complete impossibility. But because of the bravery of so many we have gained so much. This year we vote for
@JoeBiden
to protect that progress.

This is a bold and innovative proposal from
@SenGillibrand
to root out corruption in our system and to make sure that elected officials answer to the people- not to those who wrote the biggest checks.
Despite the rise of far-right election denialism following the 2020 presidential election, Democrats championing democracy defeated election denying Secretary of State and Attorney General candidates in states across the country.
That same year, voters rejected anti-abortion measures in Kansas, Kentucky, and Montana and approved ballot measures in California, Michigan, and Vermont to enshrine the right to an abortion in state constitutions.
And in 2023, the state of Ohio followed suit.

Let’s be clear about what we are seeing across the country right now- an all-out coordinated attack on: our democracy; women’s reproductive choice; and LGBTQ individuals, kids and families. These issues are all connected and funded by a network of right-wing dark money.
I just don't know how Democrats can find good-faith partners-in-governing from an opposing party that is straightforwardly & unabashedly anti-democracy and anti-equality.
Judge Luttig’s testimony is a reminder to elect Attorneys General and Secretaries of State who will protect the freedom to vote and listen to the will of the people.
"Still, Donald Trump and his allies and supporters, are a clear and present danger to American democracy," Ret. Federal Judge Michael Luttig says in the Jan. 6 committee public hearing.
"I don't speak those words lightly," he says.
This! “In total, 21 of the 28 Democrats who raised more than $400,000 last quarter refused corporate PAC money.” There were a ton of cynics who said it wasn’t possible- congratulations to all of these incredible candidates for showing what is possible.

Keep calm and keep counting!
Joe Biden flipped Arizona and NE 2, has taken the lead in Wisconsin, is trending toward a win in GA and Michigan. There's a strong path to winning the White House
Count every vote and keep breathing everyone.
Great piece by
@ThePlumLineGS
about what the impeachment vote says about the Republican Party and why we must pass H.R. 1 immediately to help save our democracy.
The Republican party — from the highest federal offices to the state and local level — has made it their policy to win elections by keeping certain Americans from the voting booth. And we are going to hold them accountable for their actions and inactions.
1. Georgia's Governor just signed a law that:
- restricts drop boxes
- curtails early voting for runoffs
- criminalizes giving water to people waiting in line to vote
- imposes new ID requirements for absentee ballots
Prominent corporations helped make this possible.
This is incredibly disappointing. I agreed with
@ewarren
when she said, "The Democratic primary should belong to grassroots supporters and grassroots donors, not the rich and powerful."
This decision undermines her campaign. I hope she reconsiders.
NEW: Here is video of Warren declining to disavow the new super PAC supporting her:
“If all the candidates want to get rid of super PACs, count me in. I'll lead the charge. But that's how it has to be. It can't be the case that a bunch of people keep them and only 1 or 2 don’t.”

Delta and Coca-Cola reversed their stances on Georgia’s restrictive voting law, saying they wanted to be "crystal clear" that they opposed it. The reversal comes in the face of mounting outrage from activists and powerful Black executives.
Adding insult to injury, this procedural roadblock comes just days after Sens. Manchin, Sinema, and many of their Republican colleagues praised the legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Imagine! Praising MLK and then blocking action to protect the right to vote!

“There is some good in this world…and it’s worth fighting for.”
Do not lose hope. Keep up the fight.
But we will not give up. We will continue to demand the Senate do their duty to protect the voice and the vote for all Americans. We have laid the groundwork and foundation for future success. As Senator Warnock stated tonight “We will come back again, again, and again.”

Once again, a jury of his peers has indicted Donald Trump. No one is above the law and he must be held accountable for all the crimes and abuses of office he has committed.
Mitch McConnell is legitimizing fake claims of election fraud in order to block the $2k stimulus. If he intends on undermining faith in the election results, he should leave the Senate for a job managing a QAnon message board.
By opposing common sense changes to the Senate’s antiquated rules, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) sided with all 50 Senate Republicans to block a vote on passage of the Freedom To Vote: John R. Lewis Act.
I'm honored to have the opportunity to testify at the Senate Rules Committee hearing on the

Today, Kyrsten Sinema announced she won't be running for reelection, but that isn't because of any of her principles. It's because she knows now what we knew all along — Arizonans won't support a corporate-sponsored politician who casts our democracy aside at critical moments.
