You just described my childhood. No A/C - no eating out. Made food at home. Had a garden. Vacations were camping near the river in western PA. Dad made or fixed most things that he could. No credit cards. It was a different mind set to be sure. I have had a job since age 13

With all due respect that’s not the case here in Washington county PA. A decent brick home sells for under $200k in many safe neighborhoods.
You can work under the table at 13 if you wish - trust me - I hire young kids all the time during the summer to help around my farm.
