Addressing Domestic Violence: Holding Miles Bridges Accountable This post explains the timeline of the Miles Bridges situation, the hypocrisy of the NBA and what we can try to do about it. (Trigger warning: this post contains distressing content and graphic imagery.) The NBA's continued endorsement of Miles Bridges, despite serious confirmed allegations of domestic violence, is deeply concerning. The silence surrounding this situation is heartbreaking and it raises questions about accountability and the welfare of victims. It's crucial to expose the hypocrisy within the NBA, revisit the timeline of this saga, and demand not just accountability but genuine respect, fair treatment, and support for women in sports. These are the values the NBA falsely claims to support. What I'm attempting here might seem nearly impossible, maybe even ridiculous - a single account on Twitter aiming to hold an NBA organization and its sponsors accountable. Your past support in discussing this issue has been incredible, and it's this support that gives me hope for change, even though it is an uphill battle. Timeline of the domestic violence June 29, 2022 Miles Bridges was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting and choking his former wife until she passed out in front of their two children. Later he was released after posting a bond of $130,000. The woman suffered a brain concussion, fractured nasal bone, rib contusion, strained neck muscle and multiple bruises. She later on posted a video of their child explaining how Bridges was abusing his wife and images to prove her injuries. Along with the images she wrote: “I’ve allowed someone to destroy my home, abuse me in every way possible, and traumatize our kids for life… I won’t allow the people around him to continue to silence me and continue to lie to protect this person... It hurts my heart because I’ve always had hope, and so much love and as scary as this is for me to do it’s time I stand up for myself.” In the video his son can be heard saying: “Daddy choked mommy.” I will not include this video in the post although it can be found on the internet. She later on deleted the images and the statement. July 19, 2022 Bridges was formally charged with one felony. The next day he entered a plea of not guilty. This means he said he did not do it. Nov. 3, 2022 Bridges changed his plea to no contest and was given a three-year probation sentence. This means he did not admit guilty but accepted punishment as if he had. The agreement was that he was not allowed to come in contact with his ex-wife to keep him out of jail. April 14, 2023 Bridges was issued a 30-game suspension in the NBA. League said that 20 of those were already considered served, making this a 10-game suspension. To put the ridiculousness into perspective, Draymond Green recently got half of that for a physical altercation on the court, in which no one was seriously harmed. July 7, 2023 Bridges signed a contract with the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets then claimed that they did not know that Bridges had a warrant which still hasn't been served out. The mentioned altercation will be explained in the next segment. Oct 11, 2023 A criminal summons was issued for Bridges, accusing him of violating a domestic violence protective order, misdemeanor child abuse and causing damage to personal property. Allegedly during a custody exchange he threatened his ex-wife and damaged her car. Their children were sitting in the car while Bridges allegedly threw pool balls at it, smashing the windshield and denting multiple windows. He is also accused of threatening to withhold child support if the mother of the children was ever to report the incident to the police. Oct 13, 2023 He was issued an arrest warrant for a separate alleged violation of the protective order. Bridges turned himself in, got a mugshot taken and was released on a ridiculous $1000 bond. Later on he changed his Twitter profile photo to Johnny Depp making a mockery out of the situation. Oct 17, 2023 Miles Bridges checked into the game and got a standing ovation from the fans in Charlotte. Some may claim that he has done his time but in truth all he did was sit in his luxury mansion, doing nothing in order to redeem himself. Instead of trying to change himself and maybe donate to women, in such situation he put his wife in, he managed to assault her again. May and June, 2023 In those months his ex-wife Tweeted controversial statements that claimed that Bridges should be given a 2nd chance and that she wishes she never spoke out on the topic. We can only speculate about this. She might’ve been hoping for more child support from Bridges due to the big paycheck from the NBA, which is to be expected from an abusive millionaire. There is also a psychological aspect that may be in play in this situation due to the brain concussion or due to the mental health problems that often occur in an abusive relationship. It is not for us to decide what she must’ve meant but the fact that Miles Bridges is a woman beater and a child abuser will never change. Other issues surrounding Miles Bridges In June of 2022 Bridges posted an Instagram story of what looks to be lean, a drink with codeine and promethazine, and a joint. Later on he addressed the allegations in a Tweet by saying "Pink Lemonade 🙃". He deleted his response not long after posting it. In April of 2022 Bridges was ejected from a game against the Atlanta Hawks. When walking to the locker rooms he threw his mouthpiece in the stands and hit a 16 year-old girl. His response to the situation was this: "I was aiming for the guy that was screaming at me and it hit a little girl… I can get in contact with the young girl and sincerely apologize to her and do something nice for her, but that's definitely on me." Other cases of abuse and drugs The NBA has a history of supporting räpists and abusers. The most known one being Karl Malone, who is known for impregnating a 13 year-old girl and refusing to pay child support afterwards. He was celebrated on national television during the most recent NBA All-Star game in Utah. In more recent times there have also been allegations around the NBA. Most known ignored ones have been about Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd. The situations they were in did not affect their NBA careers at all and were smoothly swept under the rug. I am not going to argue about the legitimacy of those cases, except the Jason Kidd one which was confirmed. In recent history the NBA has thrown out multiple players out of the league for drug problems. For example OJ Mayo and Tyreke Evans both got a hefty multi-year suspension from the league after drug abuse. The league did not decide to help them. It seems weird that when it comes to drugs the NBA wants to keep a clean image, but not when it comes to literal violence. In the past years the NBA has also seen other domestic abusers. Kevin Porter Jr. being one of them, he is currently out of the league but looking at this situation we can safely assure that he will be back in no time. Terence Davis also got 7 domestic abuse charges against him, 5 of which were dropped. That means 2 of them were still true, he played for the Sacramento Kings in the 2022-23 season. The Clippers recently signed Josh Primo to a two-way deal. Primo was waived by the Spurs a few years ago after exposing himself to the team psychologist multiple times. The Clippers did not seem to care about the sexual assault case. Ja Morant was recently issued a lengthy 25 game suspension for showing a firearm multiple times on his Instagram livestreams. It is not important to argue about the safety or morality of such an act but to point out how this was handled more strictly than a domestic abuse case. We can also point out the recently waived Kai Jones. Before he was waived, by none other than the Hornets, he acted weird on social media and even requested a trade on Twitter. The 22 year-old did not seem to be in a good mental state but instead of helping him the Charlotte Hornets got rid of him, making a free agent. Many more such situations have happened that I did not mention here. The hypocrisy of the NBA The NBA's apparent commitment to promoting and supporting women in sports stands in contrast to their treatment of women through history. Despite the league's vocal stance, their actions suggest a different reality - one where instances of disrespect towards women reveal a dissonance between their proclaimed values and actual practices. The ongoing financial support directed towards individuals involved in domestic abuse cases contradicts the very principles the NBA claims to champion. It raises serious questions about the sincerity of their support and the lengths to which they prioritize their image over genuine advocacy for women's rights within the league. What can we do about this Fighting against multi-million dollar companies is an impossible task. It's our duty to amplify our voices, ensuring sponsors understand their ties to someone accused of domestic violence. Pressuring these sponsors is essential - highlighting that their funding aligns with an individual accused of harming women and children. Together we may have a chance to bring some accountability to this world. These are some of the companies that are supporting the actions of the Charlotte Hornets: @Feastables

@petemrogers I am not angry if it happens because it feels nice and familiar. I have never known a Celtics who don't throw away a lead for fun.

@Jenkins1288 Yeah, I don't really like when players are determined to get the foul but not the real bucket.
