@CIHR_IRSC officially announces the 2024 awardees while I am conducting field experiments (pics below). I am humbled to become a @NSERC_CRSNG #BantingCanada Fellow. As a comparative physiologist, receiving an award named after Dr. Banting is even more meaningful (1/2)
Today, Ministers Holland and Champagne announced the recipients of the 2024 #VanierCanada and #BantingCanada awards. These talented doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers are the future leaders of innovation and research excellence in Canada.

What are the new mechanisms for the collective movement of the animals? Turbulence sheltering hypothesis can shed new light on our thinking. #biology #collective #behaviour
Why do #fish swim in #schools? A๐งตand new hypothesis. Schooling could help fish avoid predators, navigate, communicate, find mates and food, and save energy. Here we propose and test a new hypothesis:

This is indeed a very nice collaboration to showcase the connections between laboratory studies with field observations. #Biology
So cool to see my most recent collaboration with @Harvard It shows how intrinsically related environmental photography and science are and how both can evolve together!

I am humbled to work with a wonderful team. More to come. Stay tuned!
Thrilled to see this out! In this work, we tested a bold hypothesis: Do fish in schools benefit from their leaders laminarizing flow? The answer is yes. We found reduction in energy consumption and more regular tail beat patterns when in school & in laminar flow. Thread ๐

What a great piece on @ScienceMagazine ! Tour de Fish is a great title for the piece. It is especially bringing it home for me as I am a cyclist too!
Lovely piece by @MadelineReinsel in @ScienceMagazine about @TheYangfanZHANG & @georgelauder's #PLOSBiology article on the energetic benefits of swimming together in rough waters:
