I’ve been poorly this week but one thing that is cheering me up is finishing these socks. My first pair of Fair Isle socks, in Shetland wool - safe to say my feet will be very cosy this year as I whizz around on the historic floors at work decorating Christmas trees! 🎄

Ahhhh this brings back memories of the old guys who would bring me the historic style corset from the costume room and ask me to model it for them before running off giggling. I was 21 and contractually obliged not to throw things at them.

Gosh. We only went and did it. Thatch fully replaced and restored to its historic style and material. Now to figure out fundraising for the next phase of much needed repairs.

My happy Christmas garland is complete. Three weeks went into crocheting this. A lot of anxiety went into its stitches but I came out the other side in a much better place, it helped me through a tough time.

Devastated to have to close for flooding on Good Friday after my team worked so hard. We have regrouped and will be reopening tomorrow after a big push to make the park safe. I think the exhaustion from leading five flood events in three months might be starting to show…

We lost the light of my life, my darling boy Ferris Farr this weekend. We spent 16 wonderful years together, and were rarely apart. His passing has left the biggest hole in my heart. He was the best canine head of security the NT ever had, and my best friend. Sleep well bud.

I’ve been off sick for nearly a month with pneumonia and the joy of Covid. Today was my first day back at work and the deer were waiting for me. It’s a long road to being 100% but it’s great to be back 🦌

It’s officially one year since I started as the Charlecote General Manager. Still can’t believe I bagged my dream job with the best people. We’ve invested £1.5m in Charlecote in a single year, and I couldn’t be prouder.

I decided this year to embroider a phenology wheel, to be mindful of the seasons changing around me. February was summed up by light snow, the cheerful Dunnock’s song, and the spring crocuses and snowdrops popping up.

I am incredibly proud of the amazing team at Charlecote. Despite very challenging conditions of wind and rain they worked so hard to redirect floodwaters back into the river and get pumps into the cellar. The level is dropping now, thanks to their tenacity.

After the flooding took us out on Good Friday, we came out swinging! From a standing start on Saturday morning we got back open in record time, and welcomed thousands of visitors and sold hundreds of trails. Endlessly proud of these resilient and hard-working superstars.

Yesterday we held a small celebration to thank the Charlecote Park team for their hard work during the flooding events of 2024. It’s amazing how a badge and a visit to the roof of the Gatehouse can delight a team! Huge congratulations to them for their commitment.

Since 31st December Charlecote has flooded four times. I am so proud of my amazing team who have shown resilience and fortitude in the face of unending fence repairs, debris clearing, and redirecting flood waters; all while soaked to the skin and exhausted. They deserve medals.
