@slangchain @leater19751 @BillSmith777333 @philvischer Taxation goes into one big pot. There isn't someone who has been paying for it except the United States, which we are all responsible for. And thus when we stop doing what we started doing, and lives depend on it, we all become responsible.

@slangchain @leater19751 @BillSmith777333 @philvischer His point is that it's wrong to stop providing what has been provided. No one but you has raised the issue of any individual doing so. There's no reason to pretend he has raised that issue.

@DougDozier3 @NeilShenvi My kids wouldn't be much benefited if I go to prison for not paying taxes.

@efdouglass @BillSmith777333 @philvischer How much does Phil make and how much does he give to the poor? I assume you know those amounts, or you wouldn't be talking like you do.

@leater19751 @BillSmith777333 @philvischer So in your view not doing something is equivalent to stopping something you do that people have come to depend on. Why assume Phil shares your view on that?

@Adorb__Deplorb @GarbageHuman24 Why do arbitrary, fickle, and highly volatile and constantly changing lines even count as relevant in important decisions like who you spend your life with?

@JosiahHawthorne I guess that's one way to bite a bullet. Accept and insist on the most ridiculous implications of your view rather than admit that it's a ridiculous view to begin with.

@thecrazypastor @JosiahHawthorne The sequel corrected so many problems in the original book. Once Harris had actually done it, he realized how wrong his first book really was. His more mature thinking on it (even by only a couple years) was much better than his teenaged take that everyone read and talked about.

@LibertyEthics There are some philosophical distinctions between what people can mean by "desire" that might take some care, but attraction is merely the directionality of where the desires go when they appear. It's not a desire itself in any sense.

@DougDozier3 @NeilShenvi Absolutist libertarianism is incompatible with Christianity. A Christian response to being enslaved is to submit to the master. If a feudal lord demands 100% of my earnings, I give it to them. Submission to gvt in the NT is submission to a gvt that persecutes Christians.

@BillSmith777333 @philvischer The sale of VeggieTales was a forced act because of bankruptcy. Any money he has now is what he's earned since recovering from that hole. He doesn't make anything from that property unless they hire him as a voice actor.

@Adorb__Deplorb @GarbageHuman24 These divisions aren't natural though. They're social constructions that change over time at the whims of cultural change. And racial favoritism is by definition racist.

@GarbageHuman24 I'm white. My wife is black. My five children look like me. They also look like her. They have the same amount of DNA from me as what they have from her, as is true of literally everyone on the planet.

Generative AI makes things up. It happens so much they now have a technical term for it -- hallucination. This is completely unsurprising.

@Supremedud @NeilShenvi The subject of the conversation is the responses Neil is getting that attack him for caring about porn. What precisely is wrong with calling them sinful? And why assume I'm including your response in that assessment? I don't see you responding that way to him.

Remember when people with Bush Derangement started asserting all sorts of things the government was doing as part of the Patriot Act that weren't? Now they're doing it with USAID. Only it's not the same people. It's the ones who complained about it then who are doing it now.

@parkmanplus326 @philvischer That wasn't even USAID. It was the State Department.
