I hope Peter Seidler's lasting legacy in the MLB is showing what a competitively-balanced field can do for the sport. Peter's group purchased a team that was routinely outspent in payroll 2-3x by division rivals, and despite having one of the best parks in the nation, hovered around the 17th-23rd rank in attendance, and was typically in the sub-25th ranking for payroll. The Pads signed Manny Machado to a monster deal in 2019. Attendance jumped to 14th in the league, despite only being at the start of a planned payroll increase - they were still only 24th in the rankings - firmly half of LAD and a little more than half of SF's payroll. By 2021, their payroll jumped to a competitive level, and San Diego began to transform into a baseball town. They were 8th in payroll - at the back-end of the top-third of the league in spending, but attendance jumped to 3rd in the nation. This was the first time since Spotrac has tracked payroll that the Padres outspent the Giants. In 2023, they jumped to 3rd in payroll, and 3rd in attendance. Petco Park was widely regarded as one of the most exciting places to play and watch baseball, and San Diego was recognizes as a baseball-hungry town. The most frustrating element for Padres fans was along the way - while Peter spread baseball fever across the county of San Diego (and beyond!), the media ran stories of how it was bad for baseball, and how a proposed deal with Aaron Judge would have been shot down had he agreed to sign with them because it was proposed in a manner that would have spread his CBT figure over years he'd likely be out of the sport. The MLB needs to learn that to grow this sport, they need to create a level playing field. The wide disparity between what teams spend in the league prevents entire regions from growing the sport, because no one wants to watch an noncompetitive, garbage product. Salary floors absolute need to be implemented. Sell the team if you can't make the revenue necessary to hit the floor. And absolutely, 100% create a hard-cap. Stop catering to 2-4 of the top-market teams, and focus on growing this sport. /end rant

@after_yards Did you see his wife's clip regarding trading Kupp? She suggested moving on from LA... gotta wonder if this has been in the works for a bit and they just want to get younger/retool, or maybe there was frustration around that distraction.

Building on our previous conversation, I think the Eagles and Browns have similar structure with how they push money into future years. It's a sustainable plan... if you have the right core. I just don't think the Browns have the right core or window to win, largely because Watson's deal, but now potentially having to move Garrett breaks it IMO. If the spectrum of sustainable money-pushing is Saints ----- Eagles, the right move at QB (if they kept their picks and extended Baker, and Watson never landed in CLE), they could have been pretty far on the Eagles end of the spectrum. Instead they are trending close to the Saints.

@RobertO73312578 @after_yards Exactly. I lumped them in with the defense, but the line were the ones that were jaw-dropping. Roseman might be the top GM in the game right now. Who else has repeated as champions that quickly with a different quarterback and coaching staff?

@RyanWatkins20 and I took a look at the Chargers 2025 outgoing FA's, and took a stab on who will be retained and who will walk. Given Joe Hortiz's love for compensatory picks and a surplus in the cancellation chart, it gives a roadmap for what free agency my look like

@after_yards The tough part of pushing cap hits is you're essentially borrowing future cap space from staples on your roster. The Browns have been borrowing from the bank of Garrett and Watson... but the bank may be calling their loans

@after_yards Haven't seen anything stating it was one of the things explicitly detailed in his contract, but it was initially suggested that the Browns could get out from it... here's one example

@josh_queipo His best fit might be to stay in LA ... ....Chargers could definitely be interested. He fits. But it'd have to be for a Day 3 pick IMO with that contract @RyanWatkins20

@DevineGospel Solid utility piece. Probably splits time with Luis at 1st, but also spells at 3rd and 2nd when those boys need a breather. I'd love that move. (Luis actually did pretty dang well at 1st in the playoffs)

@ChuckThoma94465 @iAnonPatriot The only one I disagree with is lower pay. I have zero issue with them making a good salary if they get back to acting in the interests of the citizens and not lining their own pockets.

@Rich_MillerTime @RyanWatkins20 Rich - Kellen Moore actually just forgot how to coordinate in LA. Great before, great after. Couldn't possibly be our personnel 😇
