Why in the world are the methods not just included in some online papers, and instead are separate, downloadable files? My downloads folder does not need this, just put the methods with the rest of the paper like they've always been!

Public service buildings (banks, courthouse, DMV, etc) should be required to be open past 5 PM at least one day a week if they don't have fully online portals. It's insane that to renew my vehicle registration, I have to take an hour off work to go complete paperwork.

Since holiday season is around the corner, a reminder: not everyone likes the holidays. Especially if you interact with young people, realize this may actually be a difficult/stressful time of year. You don't have to make EVERYTHING about the holiday. Be considerate.

This is especially true when you realize every conference has their own app. I'm sure there's some way at least some of them could coordinate so that they're all using the same app they just upload/remove content as meetings come and go.

There's nothing more embarrassing than realizing you said something completely wrong to a really important science person. Why can I not just remember DNA is right-handed? Better, why can I not just keep my mouth shut?

Unpopular opinion: I think passive voice has a place in journalism. Not predominantly, but sprinkled in here and there, I think it can actually emphasize better than active voice. #sciencewriting

Every city & state government office should have an email, & it should be generic, not tied to a person so that people can ACTUALLY CONTACT THESE PLACES. I do not want to sit in a phone queue or play phone tag. I want to ask a question & go on with my day until I get a reply.

I need restaurants to realize mayo has egg in it. Stop trying to sell it as some dressed up "special sauce" and list it as what it is so I know to request it off of my sandwich. #FoodAllergy

If grocery store shelves are going to continue to be over 6 feet tall, I either need them to be reinforced for me to climb them or ladders of the variety in elaborate libraries that roll down the aisle need to be installed. #ShortGirlProblems

Nothing like a late-night post-send email saying "Hey did you mean..." to get your blood pumping in panic. But it's okay! Communication is key, even when that is to tell people "hi, please don't use that, I need to fix it." Life goes on...and you learn to triple check EVERYTHING.

I couldn't help but think The High Evolutionary may depict the public perception of life science researchers. 😥 Scares me to think of what attitudes they'd find for bio/med research. I'd love to see more collabs with real scientists for better portrayal!
