I’ve made over $350k on Fiverr.
You don’t need a perfect profile, optimized gigs, 100 reviews, or any expertise to get started.
You need an internet connection and a willingness to learn.
In my first 6 months of selling I had:
- No logo
- No brand
- No portfolio
- No gig
Best week yet on UpWork. This is 90% hourly work so already spoken for. I'm pretty sure I outearned myself on Fiverr this week for the first time or very close to it. Nice accomplishment.
If this is somewhat sustainable I will have added a pretty material income stream in 2024
Update: First job secured.
14 proposals sent, 1 invite, 1 hit. For a newbie, I'll take it. Progress!
FYI, I charge $250+ for this scope of work on Fiverr. This guy is getting a bargain lol.
I'll probably reinvest the proceeds into connects and try to build some momentum here.
OK...I caved and bit the UpWork bullet.
No reason (other than laziness) to not explore the platform and try to diversify my income a bit more.

Officially 0-10k on Upwork in ~4 months (Nov 1 -March 1).
Stats and Timeline:
- I actually made an UpWork in 2016, same as Fiverr. Did two scammy $5 jobs which are still on my profile today.
- I revisited very briefly in 2021 and gave up quick.
- I figured I'd try one more
Huge shoutout to

Love it!

The ban was due to multiple ToS infractions of 'Contacting Clients Outside the Platform'. Each of these
Great milestone for a newbie like myself. Feel comfortable with my profile and can really start getting picky with jobs (it was a tough 1-2 month stretch there). Time to jack my rates back to normal and take this thing seriously!
I'm starting to see why the UpWork legends on here love to say "one client" can change your life. Admittedly always thought it was a bit dramatic.
I'm used to the Fiverr life of 100s of projects per month vs. bulk work from a few select clients.
But since starting UW I've come

Pretty f'ing awesome. Wild few years. Natural to just keep moving fwd and to want and expect more. But important to pause, appreciate and be grateful. I will try.
For those interested - here's my Month 1 summary of trying to get started on UpWork.
I've submitted over 100 proposals at this point. 3 hits. A few discussions in progress as well.

Yesterday I appealed twice with UpWork support and got 2 "this decision is final we wish you the best" messages
Today I sent one last appeal explaining the situation in as much detail as possible and got it resolved.
Unfortunately,
@Upwork
customer service has been less than helpful, but I at least got the details behind the ban.
1. Months ago I booked a prospect call on an external contact form (their platform) vs. UW zoom. Again, I didn't know this was against TOS and noted it.

Another solid couple weeks from UpWork this month. Starting to feel good about using the platform for leverage to raise prices, be more selective, hire and ultimately grow the biz across the board.
Though going a bit insane managing the 2 platforms + handful off platform
UpWork Updates...getting the hang of this thing.
Job 3 secured today (3/80). They just sent a contract straight away, no back and forth. My kind of client!
Job 2 done - first review incoming!
Job 1 - home stretch...finally convinced the client that I know what I'm doing lol.
Client call today with a 20M+ yr biz: Yeah you looked like the best so we'll hire you. Get started and we'll check in next month on progress.
"Pre Rev" Startup client yesterday: Pls send daily updates and make sure to check with us before changing anything
Lol
I took on an agency client at a large discount from my typical rates given the volume of work they were providing. I saw some red flags but not enough to warrant not taking on their business, in my opinion.

2 Month Upwork Summary:

This was all 100% real, non-exaggerated:

Her: That seems high, what if I don't need that much work done?
Me: Than we can do less work at a

I don't bother defending my prices anymore. Neither should you.
I completely understand people/businesses have budgets and that's not the type of pricing inquires I'm referring to.

Quiet on twit lately - UW ban is about as final as it gets at this point and I took it pretty hard as my day-to-day was just flipped upside down and kind of hit me like bus, but like everything in this world, you learn to adapt.

After almost $150k in earnings on Fiverr, I decided to try Upwork, and I officially hit Top Rated Plus this week!
Here's how it went:

- Had one client (one monthly blog article) from August through late November, then started sending more proposals
Raise your prices to something that feels ridiculous. Let it sit for a few weeks. It’ll become your new normal.
New clients probably won’t even care or notice..

Yes. It works.
Only fair I share the UpWork struggles!

As far as disputes go, this was one of the more respectful ones I think I'll ever have with someone trying to take advantage of me. I kind of had fun with it lol.

I'm done referring to my team as "VA's" just because they're overseas.
One of those "VAs" handles all of my client comms (50+ daily new inquiries, hundreds of ongoing convos) AND manages 300+ monthly projects. That is not a "VA". That's a head of operations who I can assure you
An unintended consequence of having all my contracts shut down and restarted...my clients are happily sending new contracts at my new rate (33%+ increase). I offered to honor the old rate of course but they were happy to do it.
Reminder to increase your rates 😀

I raised my prices today on Fiverr. First time in a year.
Why?
1. I finally have leverage again (thanks, UpWork)
I used to raise my prices without caring because my leverage was my job. If demand dropped to 0, I didn't really care because I had w2 income I could count on.
Quick Fiverr tip. Have your buyers input requirements as soon as they place the order.
Probably coming up on $10,000+ in cancelled orders due to buyers ghosting after paying and not submitting requirements.
My 1-minute recap of 2023 vs. 2022 as a freelancer:

- Freelance Income: DOUBLED 💪

- 0 Hires/Team ➡️ 4 Rockstars
- 0 Freelance Friends ➡️ Many thanks to you all on X
- Distracting side projects: Unlimited
Big year for me

They're already telling you they don't value the task at hand and won't and they probably won't value you.

One of the BIGGER updates I've seen from Fiverr for Pro Sellers just went live!
Here's what you need to know:
1. Fiverr is BACKING their Pro-Sellers. If a client is unhappy with your work or tries to take advantage of you - Fiverr will pay you out. This will make me sleep a
It's kind of a nuanced question.
Easier to GET STARTED? Fiverr because it takes less time and effort. You make your profile, optimize, and largely wait...you need to get ranked and until you do you're not going to have any work to do.
Easier to START EARNING? UpWork. Mostly

Having done both. Do you think it’s easier or harder to get started on Fiverr?
I always struggled with the concept of getting the clients to come to you on Fiverr. I was much better with the chase on Upwork in the early days.
Today’s Tip:
Reach out to other Fiverr sellers that offer services adjacent to yours.
Show them your work and ask for referrals from buyers who ask for your particular service. Do the same for them.
Have generated thousands in additional business from a few quick

A common question I get is how to provide additional, unexpected value to the buyer experience without overworking yourself and burning out.
The answer?
Create 'one-and-done' digital assets that you can use over and over again.
A great example is the 'While You Wait' gift. I

UW is cool because you can wake up to a proposal response or DM and have a 6-figure contract scoped out over the course of the next few months, very casually.
