⚡🚨The Abiy Ahmed regime led Oromo Prosperity Party regime of Ethiopia has escalated taking women and children hostage under accusation of familial ties with Amhara Fano freedom fighters. Hundreds of victims have been rounded up from across north-western Amhara Region and held in military camps and detention centers in Seraba, Melza, Maksegnit, Gonder city and surrounding areas. Victims are facing abuses including denial of basic provisions like medical care and being told their release is contingent on the surrender of local Fano members. @realDonaldTrump @SecRubio @elonmusk @volker_turk @WairimuANderitu @melaniejoly @JoshuaTabah @GordJohns @TiranaHassan @LemkinInstitute @UN_Women @childreninwar @theweeknd
⚡️UPDATE - Regime forces have detained a significant number of elderly women, aged 60 to 80, in Maksegnit military camp to force Fano fighters to surrender in exchange for their release. 📍Central Gonder Zone, Amhara Region, Ethiopia ⭕ Since January 5th, a significant number of elderly women, aged 60 to 80, have been detained by regime forces at Maksegnit military camp. ⭕ The women were rounded up from multiple woredas, including East Belessa, West Belessa, Gonder-Zuriya, East Dembiya, and West Dembiya. ⭕️ Regime forces informed them that their detention was a consequence of their children, grandchildren, and family members being associated with the Fano movement. They were allegedly told that their release would only be secured upon the surrender of these relatives to the authorities. ⭕ Reports indicate that the detainees are suffering from severe health issues due to lack of medical care and inadequate food provisions, with some held for over a month in worsening conditions. ⭕️ Under international law, the arrest or detention of family members of armed fighters solely due to their relationship with the combatants is prohibited and may constitute a violation of human rights and international humanitarian law.

⚡Coinciding with @IMFNews Managing Director @KGeorgieva's visit to Ethiopia, the Abiy Ahmed regime carried out a drone bombing which killed several civilians including a mother and child in south-eastern Amhara (~100-km from Addis-Ababa city). 📌Is she aware of Abiy's "targeted spending" on deadly weapons used to commit war crimes? 📌Or how "sustained" spending on said weapons has caused immense pain and suffering for the Ethiopian people? Regardless of the answers, there is no excuse for funding an authoritarian ethnocratic regime waging a genocidal war against its own citizens. This historic mistake will be documented for future generations to learn from and those in leadership will bear responsibility for all the innocent lives lost and families destroyed‼️

This is a shameless PR stunt which tries to cover up the tragic realities of millions who continue to suffer across Ethiopia. Though unsurprising as global financial institutions have funded the Abiy Ahmed led Oromo Prosperity Party regime's genocidal war on the Amhara people.
Great to meet 🇪🇹 PM @AbiyAhmedAli to discuss Ethiopia's impressive economic performance. I saw here in Addis Ababa the signs of a vibrant private sector-led market economy - and am delighted the IMF is a partner for the government’s homegrown reform agenda.
