I’ve been a college head coach for less than two months, and so far two things jumped out at me! 1) I really had no idea how many GOOD players there are in the world, and 95% of them it feels like are uncommitted. Everyday we are getting DMs and emails from players that feel like spam mail because they’re super talented, and appear to check all the boxes, but they have no offers. Just today we heard about a 6’7 RHP up to 92 mph, with no offers, who has interest in our place. Someone has to kidding right? Nope! I knew there is a log jam of players, but the talent inside of the log jam is unbelievable! 2) The amount of players, especially high school players, with no offers who think a multitude of offers are going to appear once the season starts is baffling. Some will get a few offers, there’s no doubt, and some will be to schools that might be a bigger fit for the player than what they have. It needs to be a perfect fit for everyone involved. There are a large number of kids who think they’re going to go from zero offers to taking official visits every week to find a home, and it doesn’t work that way for the majority of athletics. College coaches at any level, just cannot offer to kids and let them sit on the offers all year, while they are waiting for something better. They have to go recruit other players that play that same position as you, and in a hurry, because if another potential player commits somewhere else, then they have lost out on two players! By all means, wait for the best decision for you and your family. But if you have an offer to a place, in any sport, that checks all the boxes you want academically and athletically, don’t keep waiting for something that may never come!
