The crazy thing about the Minato one-shot is that it came from a contest. Kishimoto just casually created a thematically brilliant story that connects to and elevates the series perfectly off an almost random draw. How many more topics could he do this for?.

Kishimoto (2013): One Piece is basically a light-hearted story, so I always think of Naruto as going the opposite way. I try to make Naruto a more serious battle by killing characters, since Oda said he doesn't kill many characters. Otherwise, Naruto wouldn't be popular enough.

I've come to learn that most people just care about identifying with characters and seeing them in semi-relatable situations (i.e. SOL), which is fine and all, but not when it leads to people calling anything that doesn't do that bad writing or "wasted potential.".

Sakura's arc early in the series is her lack of confidence and inability to help her friends because of her weakness. Over time, she sees that weakness cause more and more issues for those around her (Sasuke leaving, Naruto slowly losing his body to 9-tails, etc.).
Alright everyone. Sakura in the "5 Kage Summit" arc is clearly devisive and I'm interested in hearing your reasons for liking her and disliking her in it. I'm curious to get some wider perspectives from people who've been able to think about the material over the years.

I would rather have Rock Lee be great once and never show up again than the unending stream of mediocrity that is the current Straw Hats.
Every Straw Hat has had at least one major moment in every post-time skip arc. All of them have had significant character progression since the time-skip. Half of Naruto's main cast almost ceased to exist at all when we got half way through Shippuden.

[⏰official preview] The pirates Oda drew 27 years ago appear in the next chapter. They are based on Oda, Watsuki, and Takei. Oda said in 2021 that Watsuki is a wonderful person and that the time Oda spent working under Watsuki was probably the happiest moment of his life.🥰

My defense of Nobara is the same as my defense of Sakura or Orihime. The idea of a "female lead" is very subjective, and I feel people are arbitrarily making up what one "should be" instead actually looking at what the character is, which always undercuts their significance.

Kishimoto really is the greatest writer I've ever come across. Its not about having grandiose plots or air tight writing. It's being able to pick up a pen and captivate me effortlessly with consistency. To create some that feels deep and meaningful, while entirely natural.

Naruto really should not get the female cast criticisms. Regardless of how you feel about Sakura; Tsunade, Hinata, Kushina, Chiyo, Konan, etc. are easily better in comparison to several other shonen (HxH, DB, YYH, Toriko, etc.) that don't ever have that criticism brought up.
