⚡ICYMI 👉 An excellent read on the importance of first pass success in intubation. Authors include our own @CalvinBrown73 and Jestin Carlson MD! #emergencymedicine #airway #NEAR
Paper #21: Association between multiple intubation attempts and complications during emergency department airway management: A national emergency airway registry study, April et al, American Journal of Emergency Medicine Question: Does first-pass success matter as an airway metric? Lesson Learned: After 1 attempt, the odds of adverse events increased with the number of attempts at intubation. Summary: April studied over 15,000 intubations from the large, prospective National Emergency Airway Registry. After adjusting for confounders, the risk of peri-intubation major adverse events, defined as hypotension, hypoxemia, vomiting, dysrhythmias, cardiac arrest, esophageal intubation, and failed airway with cricothyrotomy, went up with each subsequent attempt. #emergency #emergencymedicine #criticalcare #icu #erlife #iculife #science #army #armymedicine #armyemdoc #resuscitation #research #data #airway #medairway #airwayx #medtwitter #medx
